Danach sah ich vier Engel auf den vier Ecken der Erde stehen, die die vier Winde der Erde festhielten, damit kein Wind über die Erde wehe, noch auf dem Meer, noch über irgendeinen Baum. Und ich sah einen anderen Engel von Sonnenaufgang heraufsteigen, der hatte das Siegel des lebendigen Gottes und rief mit lauter Stimme den vier Engeln zu, denen gegeben worden war, der Erde und dem Meer Schaden zuzufügen, und sagte: Schadet nicht der Erde, noch dem Meer, noch den Bäumen, bis wir die Knechte unseres Gottes an ihren Stirnen versiegelt haben.

Und ich hörte die Zahl der Versiegelten: 144000 aus jedem Stamm der Söhne Israels. Aus dem Stamm Juda 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Ruben 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Gad 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Asser 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Naftali 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Manasse 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Simeon 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Levi 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Issaschar 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Sebulon 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Josef 12000 Versiegelte, aus dem Stamm Benjamin 12000 Versiegelte.

Danach sah ich, und siehe, eine große Volksmenge, die niemand zählen konnte, aus allen Nationen und Stämmen und Völkern und Sprachen, stand vor dem Thron und vor dem Lamm, bekleidet mit weißen Gewändern und Palmen in ihren Händen, und schrien mit megalauter Stimme und sagten: Die Errettung kommt von unserem Gott, der auf dem Thron sitzt, und von dem Lamm!

Und alle Engel standen rings um den Thron und die Ältesten und die vier lebendigen Wesen, und sie fielen vor dem Thron auf ihre Angesichter und beteten Gott an und sagten: Amen! Den Lobpreis und die Herrlichkeit und die Weisheit und die Danksagung und die Ehre und die Macht und die Stärke unserem Gott von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Amen.

Und einer von den Ältesten wandte sich mir zu und sprach: Wer sind diese, die mit weißen Gewändern bekleidet sind und woher sind sie gekommen? Und ich sagte ihm: Mein Herr, du weißt es. Und er sprach zu mir: Diese sind es, die aus der großen Bedrängnis kommen, und sie haben ihre Gewänder gewaschen und sie weiß gemacht im Blut des Lammes. Darum sind sie vor dem Thron Gottes und dienen ihm Tag und Nacht in seinem Tempel. Und der auf dem Thron sitzt wird über ihnen sein Zelt aufspannen. Sie werden nicht mehr hungern, auch werden sie nicht dürsten, noch wird die Sonne sie versenken noch irgendeine Glut, denn

das Lamm, das in der Mitte des Thrones ist, wird sie behüten und sie zu lebendigen sprudelnden Wassern führen, und Gott wird jede Träne von ihren Augen abwischen.

 

Die Gute Nachricht lautet: Es gibt ein himmlisches Erlösungswerk, wenn der Zorn Gottes und der schreckliche Tag des Herrn anbricht. Das eine Windstille herbeiführende friedliche Kontrastprogramm der Engel besteht darin, die über das Wort Gottes meditierenden Erwählten an ihren Stirnen zu markieren, damit sie keinen Schaden nehmen. Matthäus 24, 31 beschreibt in ähnlicher Weise, wie Engel die Auserwählten von den vier Winden her versammeln. Überhaupt herrscht in den Köpfen vieler Heilsprediger die Vorstellung eines liebenden Vaters, der seine guten Schutzengel über alle Himmelsrichtungen aussendet. Aber ist das alles was die Bibel über die zu Feuerflammen werdenden Diener aussagt? Herodes Agrippa I. wurde durch einen Engel des Herrn erschlagen, weil er sich von seinen verfeindeten Nachbarn in heuchlerischer Weise vergöttern ließ, und die selbst erwählte Konsequenz aus Davids verbotener Volkszählung war, dass 70000 vom Volk Israel durch das Schwert des Engels des Herrn fielen. Ein früheres Gericht des Herrn, durch das Töten der Erstgeburt in Ägypten, als schlimmste und letzte Plage, konnte für die ins verheißene Land ausziehenden Gläubigen nur abgewendet werden, indem im Gehorsam auf die warnenden Worte des Herrn, das Blut des Passah-Lammes auf die Türpfosten gestrichen wurde.

Die Verordnungen von Moses sind heute noch im Munde der eifrigen orthodoxen Juden, die ein Tefillin an der Hand und als Erinnerungsmal an der Stirn beim täglichen Gebet tragen. Das Mosaische Gesetz über den einzigen Gott wurde in den Zeiten Hesekiels gegensätzlich ausgelegt, weil abscheuliche Tier- und Götzenbilder in den Priesterkammern angebetet wurden und sogar die Sonne bzw. der babylonische Gott Tammuz im Haus des Herrn Verehrung erhielten. Die großen Greuel im Tempel führten dazu, dass sich Jerusalem mit Leichen füllte. Das Gericht Gottes fängt immer erst am Haus Gottes an. Eine Ausnahme bildeten die Leute, die über die Sünde des Volkes jammerten. Sie bekamen in Hesekiel 9 ebenso ein Zeichen auf die Stirn, wie die zwölf versiegelten Stämme Israels.

Die besondere Warnung in der Nennung der 144000 Nachfahren Abrahams besteht darin, dass der Stamm Dan in der Aufzählung fehlt. Gott toleriert kein Götzentum, das im Norden Israels am Fuße des Berges Hermon besonders stark praktiziert wurde. Das sollte nicht nur den Allversöhnungslehrern, sondern allen christlichen Statuen- und Bilderverehrern stark zu denken geben.

12 mal 12 mal Tausend ist schwer verständliche Bibel-Mathematik, die gerade von den Zeugen Jehova falsch ausgelegt wird. Traurig ist, dass in vielen Denominationen eine Ersatztheologie gepredigt wird, nach dem Israel für immer verworfen worden ist und dafür von den wahren Gläubigen der eigenen Gruppierung abgelöst wurde.

Eine bemerkenswerte Begebenheit, die den geistigen Zustand der Gemeinde und von Israel, des mit Gott kämpfenden Volkes widerspiegelt, findet sich in den Evangelien wieder: Die 12 Jahre alte Tochter von Jairus liegt im Sterben und Jesus wird zur Hilfe gerufen. Auf dem Weg zum Krankenbett fasst ihn eine an Blutfluss leidende, unscheinbare Frau aus der Menge am Saum seines Gewandes, um Gottes Kraft anzuzapfen. Ungewöhnliche 12 Jahre dauerten ihre Ausscheidungen, von denen sie kein Arzt heilen konnte. Ihr Leid begann zeitgleich mit der Geburt der schwer erkrankten Tochter des Synagogenvorstehers. Für mich ist die blutflüssige Frau ein Bild für die Juden, deren Jahrtausend lange Verfolgung im Holocaust einen Höhepunkt gefunden hat, aber denen Gott durch die Gründung des Staates Israels neue Kraft gegeben hat. Die eingeschlafene Gemeinde im Haus, also die jüngeren Christen, sind wie tot und benötigen eine neue Belebung durch den Geist Gottes (vgl. Sardes und Laodizea). Ein starker Trost ist, dass Jesus nicht zu spät kommt und sich am Ende um beide kümmert (siehe Römer 11).

Die Perspektive wechselt im 7. Kapitel der Offenbarung von den Erwählten aus dem Volk Israel hin zu einer großen Volksmenge aus allen Sprachen und Nationen, die von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit Gott und das Lamm anbeten. Eine parallele Vorschattung dafür findet sich in der Hütte Davids wieder mit den 2 mal 144 prophetischen Sängern, die 24 Stunden am Tag den Herrn auf dem Berg Zion angebetet haben. Eine gleichende 12er-Gruppen-Auflistung, jedoch in 24 Losen, findet sich in 1. Chroniker 25 und eine Auslegung auf die Nationen in Apostelgeschichte 15 Verse 16 u. 17 wieder.

Die Hymnen die im Himmel angestimmt werden unterscheiden sich nicht wesentlich von dem Lobpreis aus den vorhergegangenen Kapiteln. Interessant ist die Frage eines der 24 Ältesten wer die Anbeter in weißen Gewändern sind. Woher kommen sie? Wer die Fragen stellt führt das Gespräch in die gewollte Richtung. Eigentlich ist der Leser nach der selbst gegebenen Antwort schon fast am Ende der Enthüllung angekommen, denn die Gemeinsamkeiten mit Kapitel 21 sind unübersehbar. Der wichtigste Schluss zeigt, dass Gott ins Zentrum gerückt werden muss, egal wie groß die Bedrängnis ist, denn die Sorgen und Nöte in unserer Zeit werden trotz Wissenschaft und Fortschritt nicht weniger.

12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?
14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

 

The good news is that there is a divine work of redemption, when the wrath of God and the terrible day of the Lord dawns. The calm inducing, peaceful alternative program of the angels is to seal the servants who meditate on the word of God, so that they do not take damage. Matthew 24, 31 describes in a similar manner how the angels gather the elect from the four winds. In general, the minds of salvation preachers perceive only a loving Father, who sends out his good guardian angels on all cardinal points. But is this all what the Bible has to say about his spirit beings and ministers who are made to a flame of fire?

Herod Agrippa I was slain by an angel of the Lord, because he allowed to be idolised by his hostile neighbours in a hypocritical manner, and the self-imposed consequence of David’s census was that 70,000 children of Israel fell by the sword of the angel of the Lord.

An earlier judgment of the Lord, by killing the firstborn in Egypt, as the worst and final plague, could only be prevented for the believers on their exodus into the promised land in obedience: Listening to the warning words of the Lord, they brushed the blood of the Passover lamb on their doorposts.

The regulations of Moses are still in the mouths of the zealous Orthodox jews, who wear the tefillin on the hand and as a memorial sign on their forehead during daily prayer. The Mosaic Law of the only God was interpreted differently in the days of Ezekiel, because vile animals and idols were worshipped in the priest chambers, and even the sun and the Babylonian god Tammuz received in the house of the Lord worship. The great abomination in the temple spelled trouble for Jerusalem who was filled with corpses. The judgment of God always starts first at the house of God. An exception were the people who complained about the sins of the nation. They got in Ezekiel 9 a similar sign of the end like the twelve tribes of Israel.

The specific warning in the naming of the 144,000 descendants of Abraham is that the tribe of Dan is missing in the list. God does not tolerate idolatry that was practised in northern Israel at the foot of Mount Hermon particularly strong. This should provide ample food for thought for all worshippers of Christian statues and pictures and also for the love spreading teachers of Universal Reconciliation.

12 x 12 x 1000 is hard-to-understand Bible mathematics which is mainly misinterpreted by the Jehovah’s witnesses. But it is sad that also many other denominations preach a replacement theology after which Israel has been rejected for ever to get replaced in favour of the true believers of their own grouping.

A remarkable incident that reflects the spiritual condition of the church and of Israel – the people struggling with God – can be found in the Gospels: The 12-year-old daughter of Jairus is dying and Jesus is called in to help. On the way to the patient’s bedside, a suffering from blood flow, unremarkable woman from the crowd touches the hem of his garment to tap God’s power. Unusual 12 years endured the excretions of which no physician could cure her. Her suffering started simultaneously with the birth of a now seriously ill daughter of the ruler of the synagogue. For me, the woman with the blood issue is a reflection of the Jews, whose millennium long persecution found a high point in the Holocaust. But yet, God has given them through the establishment of the State of Israel renewed strength. The church has fallen asleep in the house, so the younger Christians are as dead and need a new revival of the Spirit of God (cf. Sardis and Laodicea). A great comfort is that Jesus is not too late and at the end looks after both (see Romans 11).

The perspective changes in the 7th chapter of Revelation from the elect of the people of Israel to a large crowd from all languages ​​and nations who worship God and the Lamb forever and ever. A parallel foreshadowing of this can be found in the tent of David with the 2 times 144 prophetic singers who have worshipped the Lord 24 hours a day on Mount Zion. Resembling groups of 12, but in 24 lots, are listed in 1. Chronicles 25. A well-known interpretation for the nations sounds in Acts 15, 16  & 17:

After this I will return and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down. I will built again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up so that the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

The hymns that are sung in heaven do not differ much from the worship of the previous chapters. Interesting is the question of one of the 24 elders: Who are the worshippers dressed in white? Where do they come from? The one who asks leads the conversation in the desired direction. Practically all readers who have an answer for themselves almost reached the end of Revelation, because the similarities with Chapter 21 are obvious. The main conclusion shows that God must be put in the centre, no matter how big the distress is, since the trials and tribulations are not getting smaller in our time, despite the progress of science and economy.
