Joh 1,1 Im Anfang war das Wort, und das Wort war bei Gott, und das Wort war Gott. Joh 1,2 Dieses war im Anfang bei Gott. Joh 1,3 Alles wurde durch dasselbe, und ohne dasselbe wurde auch nicht eines, das geworden ist. Joh 1,4 In ihm war Leben, und das Leben war das Licht der Menschen. Joh 1,5 Und das Licht scheint in der Finsternis, und die Finsternis hat es nicht erfaßt. Joh 1,6 Da war ein Mensch, von Gott gesandt, sein Name Johannes. Joh 1,7 Dieser kam zum Zeugnis, auf daß er zeugte von dem Licht, damit alle durch ihn glaubten. Joh 1,8 Er war nicht das Licht, sondern auf daß er zeugte von dem Licht. Joh 1,9 Das war das wahrhaftige Licht, welches, in die Welt kommend, jeden Menschen erleuchtet. Joh 1,10 Er war in der Welt, und die Welt wurde durch ihn, und die Welt erkannte ihn nicht. Joh 1,11 Er kam in das Seinige, und die Seinigen nahmen ihn nicht an; Joh 1,12 so viele ihn aber aufnahmen, denen gab er das Recht, Kinder Gottes zu werden, denen, die an seinen Namen glauben, Joh 1,13 welche nicht aus Blut, noch aus dem Willen des Fleisches, noch aus dem Willen des Mannes, sondern aus Gott geboren sind. Joh 1,14 Und das Wort ward Fleisch und wohnte unter uns und wir haben seine Herrlichkeit angeschaut, eine Herrlichkeit als des Eingeborenen vom Vater, voller Gnade und Wahrheit; Joh 1,15 Johannes zeugte von ihm und rief und sprach: Dieser war es, von dem ich sagte: Der nach mir kommt, ist mir vor, denn er war vor mir. Joh 1,16 denn aus seiner Fülle haben wir alle empfangen, und zwar Gnade um Gnade. Joh 1,17 Denn das Gesetz wurde durch Moses gegeben; die Gnade und die Wahrheit ist durch Jesus Christus geworden. Joh 1,18 Niemand hat Gott jemals gesehen; der eingeborene Sohn, der in des Vaters Schoß ist, der hat ihn bekannt gemacht. Joh 1,19 Und dies ist das Zeugnis des Johannes, als die Juden aus Jerusalem Priester und Leviten sandten, damit sie ihn fragen sollten: Wer bist du? Joh 1,20 Und er bekannte und leugnete nicht, und er bekannte: Ich bin nicht der Christus. Joh 1,21 Und sie fragten ihn: Was denn? Bist du Elias? Und er sprach: Ich bin’s nicht. Bist du der Prophet? Und er antwortete: Nein. Joh 1,22 Sie sprachen nun zu ihm: Wer bist du? Auf daß wir Antwort geben denen, die uns gesandt haben; was sagst du von dir selbst? Joh 1,23 Er sprach: Ich bin die „Stimme eines Rufenden in der Wüste: Macht gerade den Weg des Herrn“, wie Jesaias, der Prophet, gesagt hat. Joh 1,24 Und sie waren abgesandt von den Pharisäern. Joh 1,25 Und sie fragten ihn und sprachen zu ihm: Warum taufst du denn, wenn du nicht der Christus bist, noch Elias, noch der Prophet? Joh 1,26 Johannes antwortete ihnen und sprach: Ich taufe mit Wasser; aber mitten unter euch steht einer, den ihr nicht kennt, Joh 1,27 der nach mir kommt, dessen ich nicht würdig bin, ihm den Riemen seiner Sandale zu lösen. Joh 1,28 Dies geschah zu Bethanien, jenseits des Jordan, wo Johannes taufte. Joh 1,29 Des folgenden Tages sieht er Jesus zu sich kommen und spricht: Siehe, das Lamm Gottes, welches die Sünde der Welt wegnimmt. Joh 1,30 Dieser ist es, von dem ich sagte: Nach mir kommt ein Mann, der vor mir ist, denn er war eher als ich. Joh 1,31 Und ich kannte ihn nicht; aber auf daß er Israel offenbar werden möchte, deswegen bin ich gekommen, mit Wasser zu taufen. Joh 1,32 Und Johannes bezeugte und sprach: Ich schaute den Geist wie eine Taube aus dem Himmel herniederfahren, und er blieb auf ihm. Joh 1,33 Und ich kannte ihn nicht; aber der mich gesandt hat, mit Wasser zu taufen, der sprach zu mir: Auf welchen du sehen wirst den Geist herniederfahren und auf ihm bleiben, dieser ist es, der mit Heiligem Geist tauft. Joh 1,34 Und ich habe gesehen und habe bezeugt, daß dieser der Sohn Gottes ist. Joh 1,35 Des folgenden Tages stand wiederum Johannes und zwei von seinen Jüngern, Joh 1,36 und hinblickend auf Jesus, der da wandelte, spricht er: Siehe, das Lamm Gottes! Joh 1,37 Und es hörten ihn die zwei Jünger reden und folgten Jesu nach. Joh 1,38 Jesus aber wandte sich um und sah sie nachfolgen und spricht zu ihnen: Was sucht ihr? Sie aber sagten zu ihm: Rabbi (was verdolmetscht heißt: Lehrer), wo hältst du dich auf? Joh 1,39 Er spricht zu ihnen: Kommt und seht! Sie kamen nun und sahen, wo er sich aufhielt, und blieben jenen Tag bei ihm. Es war um die zehnte Stunde. Joh 1,40 Andreas, der Bruder des Simon Petrus, war einer von den zweien, die es von Johannes gehört hatten und ihm nachgefolgt waren. Joh 1,41 Dieser findet zuerst seinen eigenen Bruder Simon und spricht zu ihm: Wir haben den Messias gefunden was übersetzt ist: Christus. Joh 1,42 Und er führte ihn zu Jesu. Jesus blickte ihn an und sprach: Du bist Simon, der Sohn Jonas‘; du wirst Kephas heißen was übersetzt wird: Stein. Joh 1,43 Am folgenden Tag wollte er aufbrechen nach Galiläa, und er findet Philippus; und Jesus spricht zu ihm: Folge mir nach. Joh 1,44 Philippus aber war von Bethsaida, aus der Stadt des Andreas und Petrus. Joh 1,45 Philippus findet den Nathanael und spricht zu ihm: Wir haben den gefunden, von welchem Moses in dem Gesetz geschrieben und die Propheten, Jesus, den Sohn des Joseph, den von Nazareth. Joh 1,46 Und Nathanael sprach zu ihm: Kann aus Nazareth etwas Gutes kommen? Philippus spricht zu ihm: Komm und sieh! Joh 1,47 Jesus sah den Nathanael zu sich kommen und spricht von ihm: Siehe, wahrhaftig ein Israelit, in welchem kein Trug ist. Joh 1,48 Nathanael spricht zu ihm: Woher kennst du mich? Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ehe Philippus dich rief, als du unter dem Feigenbaum warst, sah ich dich. Joh 1,49 Nathanael antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Rabbi, du bist der Sohn Gottes, du bist der König Israels. Joh 1,50 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Weil ich dir sagte: Ich sah dich unter dem Feigenbaum, glaubst du? Du wirst Größeres als dieses sehen. Joh 1,51 Und er spricht zu ihm: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Von nun an werdet ihr den Himmel geöffnet sehen und die Engel Gottes auf- und niedersteigen auf den Sohn des Menschen.

Joh 2,1 Und am dritten Tage war eine Hochzeit zu Kana in Galiläa; und die Mutter Jesu war daselbst. Joh 2,2 Es war aber auch Jesus mit seinen Jüngern zu der Hochzeit geladen. Joh 2,3 Und als es an Wein mangelte, spricht die Mutter Jesu zu ihm: Sie haben keinen Wein. Joh 2,4 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Was habe ich mit dir zu schaffen, Frau? Meine Stunde ist noch nicht gekommen. Joh 2,5 Seine Mutter spricht zu den Dienern: Was er euch sagt, das tut! Joh 2,6 Es waren aber dort sechs steinerne Wasserkrüge aufgestellt, nach der Reinigungssitte der Juden, wovon jeder zwei oder drei Maß faßte. Joh 2,7 Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Füllt die Wasserkrüge mit Wasser. Und sie füllten sie bis oben an. Joh 2,8 Und er spricht zu ihnen: Schöpft nun und bringt es dem Speisemeister. Und sie brachten es. Joh 2,9 Als aber der Speisemeister das Wasser gekostet hatte, welches Wein geworden war und er wußte nicht, woher er war, die Diener aber, welche das Wasser geschöpft hatten, wußten es, ruft der Speisemeister den Bräutigam Joh 2,10 und spricht zu ihm: Jeder Mensch setzt zuerst den guten Wein vor, und wenn sie betrunken geworden sind, alsdann den geringeren; du hast den guten Wein bis jetzt aufbewahrt. Joh 2,11 Diesen Anfang der Zeichen machte Jesus zu Kana in Galiläa und offenbarte seine Herrlichkeit; und seine Jünger glaubten an ihn. Joh 2,12 Danach ging er hinab nach Kapernaum, er und seine Mutter und seine Brüder und seine Jünger; und sie blieben nicht viele Tage dort. Joh 2,13 Und das Passah der Juden war nahe, und Jesus ging hinauf nach Jerusalem. Joh 2,14 Und er fand im Tempel die Händler die Rinder, Schafe, und Tauben verkauften, und die Wechsler dasitzen. Joh 2,15 Und er machte eine Geißel aus Stricken und trieb sie alle zum Tempel hinaus, sowohl die Schafe als auch die Rinder; und die Münze der Wechsler schüttete er aus, und die Tische warf er um; Joh 2,16 und zu den Taubenverkäufern sprach er: Nehmt dies weg von hier, macht nicht das Haus meines Vaters zu einem Kaufhaus. Joh 2,17 Seine Jünger aber gedachten daran, daß geschrieben steht: „Der Eifer um dein Haus verzehrt mich“. Joh 2,18 Die Juden nun antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Was für ein Zeichen zeigst du uns, daß du diese Dinge tust? Joh 2,19 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Brecht diesen Tempel ab, und in drei Tagen will ich ihn aufrichten. Joh 2,20 Da sprachen die Juden: Sechsundvierzig Jahre ist an diesem Tempel gebaut worden, und du willst ihn in drei Tagen aufrichten? Joh 2,21 Er aber sprach von dem Tempel seines Leibes. Joh 2,22 Als er nun aus den Toten auferstanden war, gedachten seine Jünger daran, daß er dies gesagt hatte, und sie glaubten der Schrift und dem Wort, welches Jesus gesprochen hatte. Joh 2,23 Als er aber zu Jerusalem war, am Passahfeste, glaubten viele an seinen Namen, als sie seine Zeichen sahen, die er tat. Joh 2,24 Jesus selbst aber vertraute sich ihnen nicht an, weil er alle kannte Joh 2,25 und nicht bedurfte, daß jemand Zeugnis gebe von dem Menschen; denn er selbst wußte, was in dem Menschen war.

Joh 3,1 Es war aber ein Mensch aus den Pharisäern, sein Name Nikodemus, ein Oberster der Juden. Joh 3,2 Dieser kam zu Jesus bei Nacht und sprach zu ihm: Rabbi, wir wissen, daß du ein Lehrer bist, von Gott gekommen, denn niemand kann diese Zeichen tun, die du tust, es sei denn, daß Gott mit ihm ist. Joh 3,3 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Es sei denn, daß jemand von neuem geboren wird, so kann er das Reich Gottes nicht sehen. Joh 3,4 Nikodemus spricht zu ihm: Wie kann ein Mensch geboren werden, wenn er alt ist? Kann er etwa zum zweiten Male in den Leib seiner Mutter eingehen und geboren werden? Joh 3,5 Jesus antwortete: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Es sei denn, daß jemand aus Wasser und Geist geboren wird, so kann er nicht in das Reich Gottes eingehen. Joh 3,6 Was aus dem Fleisch geboren ist, ist Fleisch, und was aus dem Geist geboren ist, ist Geist. Joh 3,7 Verwundere dich nicht, daß ich dir sagte: Ihr müsst von neuem geboren werden. Joh 3,8 Der Wind weht, wo er will, und du hörst sein Sausen, aber du weißt nicht, woher er kommt, und wohin er geht; so ist jeder, der aus dem Geist geboren ist. Joh 3,9 Nikodemus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wie kann dies geschehen? Joh 3,10 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Du bist der Lehrer Israels und weißt das nicht? Joh 3,11 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Wir reden, was wir wissen, und bezeugen, was wir gesehen haben, und unser Zeugnis nehmt ihr nicht an. Joh 3,12 Wenn ich euch das Irdische gesagt habe, und ihr glaubt nicht, wie werdet ihr glauben, wenn ich euch von himmlischen Dingen sage? Joh 3,13 Und niemand ist hinaufgestiegen in den Himmel, als nur der aus dem Himmel herabgestiegen ist, der Sohn des Menschen, der im Himmel ist. Joh 3,14 Und gleichwie Moses in der Wüste die Schlange erhöhte, so muß der Sohn des Menschen erhöht werden, Joh 3,15 auf daß jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht verloren geht, sondern ewiges Leben hat. Joh 3,16 Denn so sehr hat Gott die Welt geliebt, daß er seinen eingeborenen Sohn gab, auf daß jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht verloren gehe, sondern ewiges Leben hat. Joh 3,17 Denn Gott hat seinen Sohn nicht in die Welt gesandt, daß er die Welt richte, sondern daß die Welt durch ihn gerettet werde. Joh 3,18 Wer an ihn glaubt, wird nicht gerichtet; wer aber nicht glaubt, ist schon gerichtet, weil er nicht geglaubt hat an den Namen des eingeborenen Sohnes Gottes. Joh 3,19 Dies aber ist das Gericht, daß das Licht in die Welt gekommen ist, und die Menschen haben die Finsternis mehr geliebt als das Licht, denn ihre Werke waren böse. Joh 3,20 Denn jeder, der Böses tut, haßt das Licht und kommt nicht zu dem Licht, auf daß seine Werke nicht aufgedeckt werden; Joh 3,21 wer aber die Wahrheit tut, kommt zu dem Licht, damit seine Werke offenbar werden, daß sie in Gott gewirkt sind. Joh 3,22 Nach diesem kam Jesus und seine Jünger in das Land Judäa, und daselbst verweilte er mit ihnen und taufte. Joh 3,23 Aber auch Johannes taufte zu Aenon, nahe bei Salim, weil viel Wasser dort war; und sie kamen hin und wurden getauft. Joh 3,24 Denn Johannes war noch nicht ins Gefängnis geworfen. Joh 3,25 Es entstand nun eine Streitfrage unter den Jüngern Johannes‘ mit einem Juden über die Reinigung. Joh 3,26 Und sie kamen zu Johannes und sprachen zu ihm: Rabbi, der jenseits des Jordan bei dir war, dem du Zeugnis gegeben hast, siehe, der tauft, und alle kommen zu ihm. Joh 3,27 Johannes antwortete und sprach: Ein Mensch kann nichts empfangen, es sei denn, es ist ihm aus dem Himmel gegeben. Joh 3,28 Ihr selbst gebt mir Zeugnis, daß ich sagte: Ich bin nicht der Christus, sondern daß ich vor ihm hergesandt bin. Joh 3,29 Der die Braut hat, ist der Bräutigam; der Freund des Bräutigams aber, der dasteht und ihn hört, ist hoch erfreut über die Stimme des Bräutigams; diese meine Freude nun ist erfüllt. Joh 3,30 Er muß wachsen, ich aber abnehmen. Joh 3,31 Der von oben kommt, ist über allen; der von der Erde ist, ist von der Erde und redet von der Erde. Der vom Himmel kommt, ist über allen, Joh 3,32 was er gesehen und gehört hat, dieses bezeugt er; und sein Zeugnis nimmt niemand an. Joh 3,33 Wer sein Zeugnis angenommen hat, hat besiegelt, daß Gott wahrhaftig ist. Joh 3,34 Denn der, welchen Gott gesandt hat, redet die Worte Gottes; denn Gott gibt den Geist nicht nach Maß. Joh 3,35 Der Vater liebt den Sohn und hat alles in seine Hand gegeben. Joh 3,36 Wer an den Sohn glaubt, hat ewiges Leben; wer aber dem Sohn nicht glaubt, wird das Leben nicht sehen, sondern der Zorn Gottes bleibt auf ihm.

Joh 4,1 Als nun der Herr erkannte, daß die Pharisäer gehört hatten, daß Jesus mehr zu Jüngern machte und taufte als Johannes, Joh 4,2 obwohl Jesus selbst nicht taufte, sondern seine Jünger, Joh 4,3 verließ er Judäa und zog wieder nach Galiläa. Joh 4,4 Er mußte aber durch Samaria ziehen. Joh 4,5 Er kommt nun in eine Stadt Samarias, genannt Sichar, nahe bei dem Feld, welches Jakob seinem Sohne Joseph gab. Joh 4,6 Es war aber daselbst eine Quelle Jakobs. Jesus nun, ermüdet von der Reise, setzte sich also an die Quelle nieder. Es war um die sechste Stunde. Joh 4,7 Da kommt eine Frau aus Samaria, Wasser zu schöpfen. Jesus spricht zu ihr: Gib mir zu trinken. Joh 4,8 Denn seine Jünger waren weggegangen in die Stadt, um Speise zu kaufen. Joh 4,9 Die samaritische Frau spricht nun zu ihm: Wie bittest du, der du ein Jude bist, von mir zu trinken, die ich ein samaritisches Weib bin? Denn die Juden verkehren nicht mit den Samaritern. Joh 4,10 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihr: Wenn du die Gabe Gottes erkennen würdest, und wer es ist, der zu dir spricht: Gib mir zu trinken, so würdest du ihn bitten, und er gäbe dir lebendiges Wasser. Joh 4,11 Die Frau spricht zu ihm: Herr, du hast kein Schöpfgefäß, und der Brunnen ist tief; woher hast du denn das lebendige Wasser? Joh 4,12 Du bist doch nicht größer als unser Vater Jakob, der uns den Brunnen gab, und er selbst trank aus demselben und seine Söhne und sein Vieh? Joh 4,13 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihr: Jeden, der von diesem Wasser trinkt, wird wieder dürsten; Joh 4,14 wer aber von dem Wasser trinken wird, das ich ihm geben werde, den wird nicht dürsten in Ewigkeit; sondern das Wasser, das ich ihm geben werde, wird in ihm eine Quelle Wassers werden, das ins ewige Leben quillt. Joh 4,15 Die Frau spricht zu ihm: Herr, gib mir dieses Wasser, damit mich nicht dürstet und ich nicht herkommen muss, um zu schöpfen. Joh 4,16 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Geh hin, rufe deinen Mann und komm hierher. Joh 4,17 Die Frau antwortete und sprach: Ich habe keinen Mann. Jesus spricht zu ihr: Du hast recht gesagt: Ich habe keinen Mann; Joh 4,18 denn fünf Männer hast du gehabt, und der, den du jetzt hast, ist nicht dein Mann; hierin hast du wahr geredet. Joh 4,19 Die Frau spricht zu ihm: Herr, ich sehe, daß du ein Prophet bist. Joh 4,20 Unsere Väter haben auf diesem Berge angebetet, und ihr sagt, daß in Jerusalem der Ort sei, wo man anbeten müsse. Joh 4,21 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Frau, glaube mir, es kommt die Stunde, da ihr weder auf diesem Berg, noch in Jerusalem den Vater anbeten werdet. Joh 4,22 Ihr wisst nicht, was ihr anbetet, wir aber wissen, was wir anbeten, denn das Heil ist aus den Juden. Joh 4,23 Es kommt aber die Stunde und ist schon da, wo die wahrhaftigen Anbeter den Vater in Geist und Wahrheit anbeten werden; denn auch der Vater sucht solche als seine Anbeter. Joh 4,24 Gott ist Geist, und die ihn anbeten, müssen in Geist und Wahrheit anbeten. Joh 4,25 Die Frau spricht zu ihm: Ich weiß, daß der Messias kommt, welcher Christus genannt wird; wenn jener kommt, wird er uns alles verkündigen. Joh 4,26 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Ich bin es, der mit dir redet. Joh 4,27 Und über diesem kamen seine Jünger und verwunderten sich, daß er mit einem Weibe redete. Dennoch sagte niemand: Was suchst du? Oder: Was redest du mit ihr? Joh 4,28 Die Frau nun ließ ihren Wasserkrug stehen und ging weg in die Stadt und sagt zu den Leuten: Joh 4,29 Kommt, seht einen Menschen, der mir alles gesagt hat, was irgend ich getan habe; dieser ist doch nicht etwa der Christus? Joh 4,30 Sie gingen aus der Stadt hinaus und kamen zu ihm. Joh 4,31 In der Zwischenzeit baten ihn die Jünger und sprachen: Rabbi, iß. Joh 4,32 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich habe eine Speise zu essen, die ihr nicht kennt. Joh 4,33 Da sprachen die Jünger zueinander: Hat ihm wohl jemand zu essen gebracht? Joh 4,34 Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Meine Speise ist, daß ich den Willen dessen tue, der mich gesandt hat, und sein Werk vollbringe. Joh 4,35 Sagt ihr nicht: Es sind noch vier Monate, und die Ernte kommt? Siehe, ich sage euch: Hebt eure Augen auf und schaut die Felder an, denn sie sind schon weiß zur Ernte. Joh 4,36 Der da erntet, empfängt Lohn und sammelt Frucht zum ewigen Leben, auf daß beide, der da sät und der da erntet, sich miteinander freuen. Joh 4,37 Denn hierin ist der Spruch wahr: Ein anderer ist es, der da sät, und ein anderer, der da erntet. Joh 4,38 Ich habe euch gesandt, zu ernten, woran ihr nicht gearbeitet habt; andere haben gearbeitet, und ihr seid in ihre Arbeit eingetreten. Joh 4,39 Aus jener Stadt aber glaubten viele von den Samaritern an ihn um des Wortes des Weibes willen, welches bezeugte: Er hat mir alles gesagt, was irgend ich getan habe. Joh 4,40 Als nun die Samariter zu ihm kamen, baten sie ihn, bei ihnen zu bleiben; und er blieb daselbst zwei Tage. Joh 4,41 Und noch viel mehr Leute glaubten um seines Wortes willen; Joh 4,42 und sie sagten zu der Frau: Wir glauben nicht mehr um deines Redens willen, denn wir selbst haben gehört und wissen, daß dieser wahrhaftig der Heiland der Welt ist. Joh 4,43 Nach den zwei Tagen aber zog er von dort weg nach Galiläa; Joh 4,44 denn Jesus selbst bezeugte, daß ein Prophet in seinem eigenen Vaterland keine Ehre hat. Joh 4,45 Als er nun nach Galiläa kam, nahmen die Galiläer ihn auf, da sie alles gesehen hatten, was er in Jerusalem auf dem Feste getan hatte; denn auch sie waren zu dem Fest gekommen. Joh 4,46 Er kam nun wiederum nach Kana in Galiläa, wo er das Wasser zu Wein gemacht hatte. Und es war ein gewisser königlicher Beamter, dessen Sohn krank war, in Kapernaum. Joh 4,47 Als dieser gehört hatte, daß Jesus aus Judäa nach Galiläa gekommen sei, ging er zu ihm hin und bat, daß er herabkomme und seinen Sohn heile; denn er lag im Sterben. Joh 4,48 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Wenn ihr nicht Zeichen und Wunder seht, so werdet ihr nicht glauben. Joh 4,49 Der königliche Beamte spricht zu ihm: Herr, komm herab, ehe mein Kind stirbt! Joh 4,50 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Geh hin, dein Sohn lebt. Und der Mensch glaubte dem Wort, das Jesus zu ihm sagte, und ging hin. Joh 4,51 Aber schon während er hinabging, begegneten ihm seine Knechte und berichteten, daß sein Sohn lebt. Joh 4,52 Er erforschte nun von ihnen die Stunde, in welcher es besser mit ihm geworden war; und sie sagten zu ihm: Gestern zur siebten Stunde verließ ihn das Fieber. Joh 4,53 Da erkannte der Vater, daß es in jener Stunde war, in welcher Jesus zu ihm sagte: Dein Sohn lebt. Und er glaubte, er und sein ganzes Haus. Joh 4,54 Dies tat Jesus wiederum als zweites Zeichen, als er aus Judäa nach Galiläa gekommen war.

Joh 5,1 Nach diesem war ein Fest der Juden, und Jesus ging hinauf nach Jerusalem. Joh 5,2 Es ist aber in Jerusalem bei dem Schaftor ein Teich, der auf Hebräisch Bethesda heißt und der fünf Säulenhallen hat. Joh 5,3 In diesen lag eine Menge Kranker, Blinder, Lahmer, Dürrer, welche auf die Bewegung des Wassers warteten. Joh 5,4 Denn zu gewissen Zeiten stieg ein Engel in den Teich herab und bewegte das Wasser. Wer nun nach der Bewegung des Wassers zuerst hineinstieg, der wurde gesund, mit welcher Krankheit er auch behaftet war. Joh 5,5 Es war aber ein Mensch dort, der achtunddreißig Jahre mit seiner Krankheit behaftet war. Joh 5,6 Als Jesus diesen daliegen sah und wußte, daß es schon lange Zeit so mit ihm war, spricht er zu ihm: Willst du gesund werden? Joh 5,7 Der Kranke antwortete ihm: Herr, ich habe keinen Menschen, daß er mich, wenn das Wasser bewegt worden ist, in den Teich bringt; während ich aber komme, steigt ein anderer vor mir hinab. Joh 5,8 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Stehe auf, nimm dein Bett auf und wandle! Joh 5,9 Und sofort wurde der Mensch gesund und nahm sein Bett auf und wandelte. Es war aber an jenem Tag Sabbath. Joh 5,10 Es sagten nun die Juden zu dem Geheilten: Es ist Sabbath, es ist dir nicht erlaubt, das Bett zu tragen. Joh 5,11 Er antwortete ihnen: Der mich gesund machte, der sagte zu mir: Nimm dein Bett auf und wandle. Joh 5,12 Da fragten sie ihn: Wer ist der Mensch, der zu dir sagte: Nimm dein Bett auf und wandle? Joh 5,13 Der Geheilte aber wußte nicht, wer es sei, denn Jesus war weggegangen, weil so viel Volk an dem Ort war. Joh 5,14 Danach findet Jesus ihn im Tempel, und er sprach zu ihm: Siehe, du bist gesund geworden; sündige nicht mehr, auf daß dir nichts Schlimmeres widerfahre. Joh 5,15 Der Mensch ging hin und verkündete den Juden, daß es Jesus war, der ihn gesund gemacht habe. Joh 5,16 Und darum verfolgten die Juden Jesus und suchten ihn zu töten, weil er dies am Sabbath getan hatte. Joh 5,17 Jesus aber antwortete ihnen: Mein Vater wirkt bis jetzt, und ich wirke. Joh 5,18 Darum nun suchten die Juden noch mehr, ihn zu töten, weil er nicht allein den Sabbath brach, sondern auch Gott seinen eigenen Vater nannte, womit er sich selbst Gott gleich machte. Joh 5,19 Da antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Der Sohn kann nichts von sich selbst tun, außer was er den Vater tun sieht; denn was dieser tut, das tut in gleicher Weise auch der Sohn. Joh 5,20 Denn der Vater hat den Sohn lieb und zeigt ihm alles, was er selbst tut, und er wird ihm größere Werke als diese zeigen, damit ihr euch verwundern werdet. Joh 5,21 Denn gleichwie der Vater die Toten auferweckt und lebendig macht, also macht auch der Sohn lebendig, welche er will. Joh 5,22 Denn der Vater richtet niemand, sondern das ganze Gericht hat er dem Sohn gegeben, Joh 5,23 damit alle den Sohn ehren, wie sie den Vater ehren. Wer den Sohn nicht ehrt, ehrt den Vater nicht, der ihn gesandt hat. Joh 5,24 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer mein Wort hört und glaubt dem, der mich gesandt hat, der hat ewiges Leben und kommt nicht ins Gericht, sondern er ist aus dem Tod in das Leben übergegangen. Joh 5,25 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, daß die Stunde kommt und schon da ist, daß die Toten die Stimme des Sohnes Gottes hören werden, und die sie gehört haben, werden leben. Joh 5,26 Denn wie der Vater Leben in sich selbst hat, so hat er auch dem Sohne gegeben, Leben zu haben in sich selbst; Joh 5,27 und er hat ihm Vollmacht gegeben, Gericht zu halten, weil er des Menschen Sohn ist. Joh 5,28 Wundert euch darüber nicht, denn es kommt die Stunde, in der alle, die in den Gräbern sind, seine Stimme hören, Joh 5,29 und hervorkommen werden: die das Gute getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Lebens, die aber das Böse getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Gerichts. Joh 5,30 Ich kann nichts von mir selbst tun; so wie ich höre, richte ich, und mein Gericht ist gerecht, denn ich suche nicht meinen Willen, sondern den Willen dessen, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 5,31 Wenn ich von mir selbst zeuge, so ist mein Zeugnis nicht wahr. Joh 5,32 Ein anderer ist es, der von mir zeugt, und ich weiß, daß das Zeugnis wahr ist, welches er von mir gibt. Joh 5,33 Ihr habt zu Johannes gesandt, und er hat der Wahrheit Zeugnis gegeben. Joh 5,34 Ich aber nehme nicht von einem Menschen Zeugnis an, sondern ich sage das, damit ihr errettet werdet. Joh 5,35 Jener war die brennende und scheinende Lampe; ihr aber wolltet für eine Zeit in seinem Licht fröhlich sein. Joh 5,36 Ich aber habe das Zeugnis, das größer ist als das des Johannes; denn die Werke, welche der Vater mir gegeben hat, auf daß ich sie vollbringe, die Werke selbst, die ich tue, zeugen von mir, daß der Vater mich gesandt hat. Joh 5,37 Und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, er selbst hat Zeugnis von mir gegeben. Ihr habt weder jemals seine Stimme gehört, noch seine Gestalt gesehen, Joh 5,38 und sein Wort habt ihr nicht bleibend in euch, weil ihr dem nicht glaubt, den er gesandt hat. Joh 5,39 Ihr erforschet die Schriften, denn ihr meint, in ihnen ewiges Leben zu haben, und sie sind es, die von mir zeugen; Joh 5,40 und ihr wollt nicht zu mir kommen, daß ihr das Leben habt. Joh 5,41 Ich nehme nicht Ehre von Menschen, Joh 5,42 aber ich kenne euch, daß ihr die Liebe Gottes nicht in euch habt. Joh 5,43 Ich bin in dem Namen meines Vaters gekommen, und ihr nehmt mich nicht auf, wenn ein anderer in seinem eigenen Namen kommt, den werdet ihr aufnehmen. Joh 5,44 Wie könnt ihr glauben, die ihr Ehre voneinander nehmt und die Ehre, die von dem alleinigen Gott ist, nicht sucht? Joh 5,45 Meint nicht, daß ich euch bei dem Vater verklagen werde; da ist einer, der euch verklagt, Moses, auf den ihr eure Hoffnung gesetzt habt. Joh 5,46 Denn wenn ihr Moses glauben würdet, so würdet ihr mir glauben, denn er hat von mir geschrieben. Joh 5,47 Wenn ihr aber seinen Schriften nicht glaubt, wie werdet ihr meinen Worten glauben?

Joh 6,1 Nach diesem ging Jesus weg auf die andere Seite des Sees von Galiläa oder von Tiberias; Joh 6,2 und es folgte ihm eine große Volksmenge, weil sie die Zeichen sahen, die er an den Kranken tat. Joh 6,3 Jesus aber ging hinauf auf den Berg und setzte sich dort mit seinen Jüngern. Joh 6,4 Es war aber das Passah nahe, das Fest der Juden. Joh 6,5 Als nun Jesus die Augen aufhob und sah, daß eine große Volksmenge zu ihm kommt, spricht er zu Philippus: Woher sollen wir Brote kaufen, damit diese essen können? Joh 6,6 Dies sagte er aber, um ihn zu prüfen, denn er selbst wußte, was er tun wollte. Joh 6,7 Philippus antwortete ihm: Für zweihundert Denare Brote reichen nicht aus für sie, daß ein jeder auch nur ein wenig bekomme. Joh 6,8 Einer von seinen Jüngern, Andreas, der Bruder des Simon Petrus, spricht zu ihm: Joh 6,9 Es ist ein kleiner Knabe hier, der fünf Gerstenbrote und zwei Fische hat; aber was ist das für so viele? Joh 6,10 Jesus aber sprach: Macht, daß die Leute sich lagern. Es war aber viel Gras an dem Orte. Es setzten sich nun die Männer, an Zahl etwa fünftausend. Joh 6,11 Jesus aber nahm die Brote, und als er gedankt hatte, teilte er sie denen aus, die da lagerten; gleicherweise auch von den Fischen, so viel sie wollten. Joh 6,12 Als sie aber gesättigt waren, spricht er zu seinen Jüngern: Sammelt die übrig gebliebenen Brocken, auf daß nichts verdirbt. Joh 6,13 Da sammelten sie und füllten zwölf Körbe mit Brocken von den fünf Gerstenbroten, welche denen, die gegessen hatten, übrigblieben. Joh 6,14 Als nun die Leute das Zeichen sahen, das Jesus tat, sprachen sie: Dieser ist wahrhaftig der Prophet, der in die Welt kommen soll. Joh 6,15 Da nun Jesus erkannte, daß sie kommen und ihn ergreifen wollten, um ihn zum König zu machen, entwich er wieder auf den Berg, er selbst allein. Joh 6,16 Als es aber Abend geworden war, gingen seine Jünger hinab an den See; Joh 6,17 und sie stiegen in das Boot und fuhren über den See nach Kapernaum. Und es war schon finster geworden, und Jesus war noch nicht zu ihnen gekommen; Joh 6,18 und der See erhob sich, da ein starker Wind wehte. Joh 6,19 Als sie nun etwa fünfundzwanzig oder dreißig Stadien gerudert waren, sahen sie Jesus auf dem See wandeln und nahe an das Boot kommen, und sie fürchteten sich. Joh 6,20 Er aber spricht zu ihnen: Ich bin es, fürchtet euch nicht! Joh 6,21 Sie wollten ihn nun in das Boot nehmen, und sogleich war das Boot an dem Land, wohin sie fahren wollten. Joh 6,22 Am folgenden Tag sah die Volksmenge, die jenseits des Sees stand, daß kein anderes Boot da war, als nur jenes, in welches seine Jünger gestiegen waren, und daß Jesus nicht mit seinen Jüngern in das Boot gestiegen, sondern seine Jünger allein weggefahren waren. Joh 6,23 Es kamen aber andere Boote aus Tiberias nahe an den Ort, wo sie das Brot gegessen, nachdem der Herr gedankt hatte. Joh 6,24 Als nun die Volksmenge sah, daß Jesus nicht dort war, noch seine Jünger, stiegen sie in die Boote und kamen nach Kapernaum und suchten Jesus. Joh 6,25 Und als sie ihn jenseits des Sees gefunden hatten, sprachen sie zu ihm: Rabbi, wann bist du hierhergekommen? Joh 6,26 Jesus antwortete ihnen und sprach: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ihr sucht mich, nicht weil ihr Zeichen gesehen, sondern weil ihr von den Broten gegessen habt und gesättigt worden seid. Joh 6,27 Wirkt nicht für die Speise, die vergeht, sondern für die Speise, die bis ins ewige Leben bleibt, welche der Sohn des Menschen euch geben wird; denn diesen hat Gott der Vater versiegelt. Joh 6,28 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Was sollen wir tun, auf daß wir die Werke Gottes wirken? Joh 6,29 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Dies ist das Werk Gottes, daß ihr an den glaubt, den er gesandt hat. Joh 6,30 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Was tust du nun für ein Zeichen, auf daß wir sehen und dir glauben? Was wirkst du? Joh 6,31 Unsere Väter aßen das Manna in der Wüste, wie geschrieben steht: „Brot aus dem Himmel gab er ihnen zu essen“. Joh 6,32 Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Nicht Moses hat euch das Brot aus dem Himmel gegeben, sondern mein Vater gibt euch das wahrhaftige Brot aus dem Himmel. Joh 6,33 Denn das Brot Gottes ist der, welcher aus dem Himmel herniederkommt und der Welt das Leben gibt. Joh 6,34 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Herr, gib uns allezeit dieses Brot! Joh 6,35 Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin das Brot des Lebens: wer zu mir kommt, wird nicht hungern, und wer an mich glaubt, wird nimmermehr dürsten. Joh 6,36 Aber ich habe euch gesagt, daß ihr mich auch gesehen habt und nicht glaubt. Joh 6,37 Alles, was mir der Vater gibt, wird zu mir kommen, und wer zu mir kommt, den werde ich nicht hinausstoßen; Joh 6,38 denn ich bin vom Himmel herabgekommen, nicht daß ich meinen Willen tue, sondern den Willen dessen, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 6,39 Dies aber ist der Wille dessen, der mich gesandt hat, daß ich von allem, was er mir gegeben hat, nichts verliere, sondern es auferwecke am letzten Tag. Joh 6,40 Denn dies ist der Wille meines Vaters, daß jeder, der den Sohn sieht und an ihn glaubt, ewiges Leben hat, und ich werde ihn auferwecken am letzten Tag. Joh 6,41 Da murrten die Juden über ihn, weil er sagte: Ich bin das Brot, das aus dem Himmel herabgekommen ist, Joh 6,42 und sie sprachen: Ist dieser nicht Jesus, der Sohn Josephs, dessen Vater und Mutter wir kennen? Wie sagt denn dieser: Ich bin aus dem Himmel herabgekommen? Joh 6,43 Da antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihnen: Murrt nicht untereinander. Joh 6,44 Niemand kann zu mir kommen, es sei denn, daß ihn der Vater zieht, der mich gesandt hat, und ich werde ihn auferwecken am letzten Tag. Joh 6,45 Es steht in den Propheten geschrieben: „Und sie werden alle von Gott gelehrt sein“. Jeder nun, der von dem Vater gehört und gelernt hat, kommt zu mir. Joh 6,46 Nicht daß jemand den Vater gesehen hat, außer dem, der von Gott ist, dieser hat den Vater gesehen. Joh 6,47 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer glaubt, hat ewiges Leben. Joh 6,48 Ich bin das Brot des Lebens. Joh 6,49 Eure Väter haben das Manna in der Wüste gegessen und sind gestorben. Joh 6,50 Dies ist das Brot, das aus dem Himmel herabkommt, daß man davon ißt und nicht stirbt. Joh 6,51 Ich bin das lebendige Brot, das aus dem Himmel herabgekommen ist; wenn jemand von diesem Brot ißt, so wird er leben in Ewigkeit. Das Brot aber, daß ich geben werde, ist mein Fleisch, das ich geben werde für das Leben der Welt. Joh 6,52 Die Juden stritten nun untereinander und sagten: Wie kann dieser uns sein Fleisch zu essen geben? Joh 6,53 Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wenn ihr nicht das Fleisch des Sohnes des Menschen eßt und sein Blut trinkt, so habt ihr kein Leben in euch selbst. Joh 6,54 Wer mein Fleisch ißt und mein Blut trinkt, hat ewiges Leben, und ich werde ihn auferwecken am letzten Tag; Joh 6,55 denn mein Fleisch ist wahrhaftig Speise, und mein Blut ist wahrhaftig Trank. Joh 6,56 Wer mein Fleisch ißt und mein Blut trinkt, bleibt in mir und ich in ihm. Joh 6,57 Gleichwie der lebendige Vater mich gesandt hat und ich lebe um des Vaters willen, so wird auch, wer mich ißt, um meinetwillen leben. Joh 6,58 Dies ist das Brot, das aus dem Himmel herniedergekommen ist. Nicht wie die Väter aßen und starben; wer dieses Brot ißt, wird leben in Ewigkeit. Joh 6,59 Dies sprach er, als er in der Synagoge von Kapernaum lehrte. Joh 6,60 Viele nun von seinen Jüngern, die es gehört hatten, sprachen: Diese Rede ist hart; wer kann sie hören? Joh 6,61 Da aber Jesus bei sich selbst wußte, daß seine Jünger hierüber murrten, sprach er zu ihnen: Ist euch das ein Ärgernis? Joh 6,62 Wie, wenn ihr nun den Sohn des Menschen dahin auffahren seht, wo er zuvor war? Joh 6,63 Der Geist ist es, der lebendig macht; das Fleisch nützt nichts. Die Worte, die ich zu euch geredet habe, sind Geist und sind Leben; Joh 6,64 aber es sind etliche unter euch, die nicht glauben. Denn Jesus wußte von Anfang, welche die waren, die nicht glaubten, und wer ihn überliefern würde. Joh 6,65 Und er sprach: Darum habe ich euch gesagt, daß niemand zu mir kommen kann, es sei ihm denn von dem Vater gegeben. Joh 6,66 Von da an zogen sich viele seiner Jünger zurück und gingen hinfort nicht mehr mit ihm. Joh 6,67 Da sprach Jesus zu den Zwölfen: Wollt ihr nicht auch weggehen? Joh 6,68 Simon Petrus antwortete ihm: Herr, zu wem sollen wir gehen? Du hast Worte ewigen Lebens; Joh 6,69 und wir haben geglaubt und erkannt, daß du der Heilige Gottes bist. Joh 6,70 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Habe ich nicht euch Zwölf auserwählt? Und doch ist einer von euch ein Teufel. Joh 6,71 Er sprach aber von Judas, dem Sohn des Simon Iskariot, denn dieser sollte ihn verraten, der einer von den Zwölfen war.

Joh 7,1 Und danach zog Jesus in Galiläa umher, denn er wollte nicht in Judäa wandeln, weil die Juden ihn zu töten suchten. Joh 7,2 Es war aber nahe das Laubhüttenfest der Juden. Joh 7,3 Es sprachen nun seine Brüder zu ihm: Zieh von hier fort und geh nach Judäa, auf daß auch deine Jünger deine Werke sehen, die du tust, Joh 7,4 denn niemand tut etwas im Verborgenen und sucht dabei selbst öffentlich bekannt zu sein. Wenn du diese Dinge tust, so offenbare dich der Welt, Joh 7,5 denn auch seine Brüder glaubten nicht an ihn. Joh 7,6 Da spricht Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Zeit ist noch nicht da, eure Zeit aber ist stets bereit. Joh 7,7 Die Welt kann euch nicht hassen, mich aber haßt sie, weil ich von ihr zeuge, daß ihre Werke böse sind. Joh 7,8 Geht ihr hinauf zu diesem Fest. Ich gehe nicht hinauf zu diesem Fest, denn meine Zeit ist noch nicht erfüllt. Joh 7,9 Nachdem er dies zu ihnen gesagt hatte, blieb er in Galiläa. Joh 7,10 Als aber seine Brüder hinaufgegangen waren, da ging auch er hinauf zu dem Fest, nicht offenbarlich, sondern wie im Verborgenen. Joh 7,11 Die Juden nun suchten ihn auf dem Fest und sprachen: Wo ist jener? Joh 7,12 Und viel Gemurmel war über ihn unter den Volksmengen; die einen sagten: Er ist gut; andere sagten: Nein, sondern er verführt das Volk. Joh 7,13 Niemand jedoch sprach öffentlich von ihm aus Furcht vor den Juden. Joh 7,14 Als es aber schon um die Mitte des Festes war, ging Jesus hinauf in den Tempel und lehrte. Joh 7,15 Da verwunderten sich die Juden und sagten: Wie besitzt dieser Gelehrsamkeit, da er doch nicht studiert hat? Joh 7,16 Da antwortete ihnen Jesus und sprach: Meine Lehre ist nicht von mir, sondern von dem, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 7,17 Wenn jemand seinen Willen tun will, so wird er erkennen, ob die Lehre aus Gott ist, oder ob ich aus mir selbst rede. Joh 7,18 Wer aus sich selbst redet, sucht seine eigene Ehre; wer aber die Ehre dessen sucht, der ihn gesandt hat, dieser ist wahrhaftig, und Ungerechtigkeit ist nicht in ihm. Joh 7,19 Hat nicht Moses euch das Gesetz gegeben? Und keiner von euch tut das Gesetz. Was suchet ihr mich zu töten? Joh 7,20 Die Volksmenge antwortete: Du hast einen Dämon. Wer sucht dich zu töten? Joh 7,21 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Ein Werk habe ich getan, und ihr alle verwundert euch. Joh 7,22 Darum gab Moses euch die Beschneidung, nicht daß sie von Moses sei, sondern von den Vätern, und am Sabbath beschneidet ihr einen Menschen. Joh 7,23 Wenn ein Mensch die Beschneidung am Sabbath empfängt, damit das Gesetz Moses nicht gebrochen werde, was zürnt ihr mir, weil ich einen ganzen Menschen gesund gemacht habe am Sabbath? Joh 7,24 Richtet nicht nach dem Augenschein, sondern richtet ein gerechtes Urteil. Joh 7,25 Es sagten nun etliche von den Bewohnern Jerusalems: Ist das nicht der, welchen sie zu töten suchen? Joh 7,26 und siehe, er redet öffentlich, und sie sagen ihm nichts. Haben denn etwa die Obersten in Wahrheit erkannt, daß dieser der Christus ist? Joh 7,27 Diesen aber kennen wir, woher er ist. Wenn aber der Christus kommt, so weiß niemand, woher er ist. Joh 7,28 Jesus nun rief im Tempel, lehrte und sprach: Ihr kennt mich und wisst auch, woher ich bin. Und ich bin nicht von mir selbst gekommen, sondern der mich gesandt hat, ist wahrhaftig, welchen ihr nicht kennt. Joh 7,29 Ich kenne ihn, weil ich von ihm bin, und er mich gesandt hat. Joh 7,30 Da suchten sie ihn zu greifen. Und niemand legte die Hand an ihn, weil seine Stunde noch nicht gekommen war. Joh 7,31 Aber viele von der Volksmenge glaubten an ihn und sprachen: Wenn der Christus kommt, wird er wohl mehr Zeichen tun als die, welche dieser getan hat? Joh 7,32 Die Pharisäer hörten die Volksmenge dies über ihn murmeln. Und die Pharisäer und die Hohenpriester sandten Diener, um ihn zu ergreifen. Joh 7,33 Da sprach Jesus: Noch eine kleine Zeit bin ich bei euch, und ich gehe hin zu dem, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 7,34 Ihr werdet mich suchen und nicht finden, und wo ich bin, könnt ihr nicht hinkommen. Joh 7,35 Es sprachen nun die Juden zueinander: Wohin will dieser gehen, daß wir ihn nicht finden sollen? Will er etwa in die Zerstreuung der Griechen gehen und die Griechen lehren? Joh 7,36 Was ist das für ein Wort, das er sprach: Ihr werdet mich suchen und nicht finden, und: Wo ich bin, könnt ihr nicht hinkommen? – Joh 7,37 An dem letzten, dem großen Tage des Festes aber stand Jesus und rief und sprach: Wenn jemand dürstet, so komme er zu mir und trinke. Joh 7,38 Wer an mich glaubt, gleichwie die Schrift gesagt hat, aus dessen Leibe werden Ströme lebendigen Wassers fließen. Joh 7,39 Dies aber sagte er von dem Geist, den die an ihn Glaubenden empfangen sollten; denn noch war der Geist nicht da, weil Jesus noch nicht verherrlicht worden war. Joh 7,40 Etliche nun aus der Volksmenge sagten, als sie diese Worte hörten: Dieser ist wahrhaftig der Prophet. Joh 7,41 Andere sagten: Dieser ist der Christus. Joh 7,43 Es entstand nun seinetwegen eine Spaltung in der Volksmenge. Joh 7,44 Etliche aber von ihnen wollten ihn greifen, aber keiner legte die Hände an ihn. Joh 8,1 Jesus aber ging zu dem Ölberg. Joh 8,2 Frühmorgens aber kam er wiederum in den Tempel, und alles Volk kam zu ihm, und er setzte sich und lehrte sie. Joh 8,3 Die Schriftgelehrten und die Pharisäer aber bringen eine Frau zu ihm, im Ehebruch ergriffen, und stellen sie in die Mitte Joh 8,4 und sagen zu ihm: Lehrer, dieses Weib ist im Ehebruch, auf der Tat selbst, ergriffen worden. Joh 8,5 In dem Gesetz aber hat uns Moses geboten, solche zu steinigen. Du nun, was sagst du? Joh 8,6 Dies aber sagten sie, ihn zu versuchen, damit sie etwas hätten, um ihn anzuklagen. Jesus aber bückte sich nieder und schrieb mit dem Finger auf die Erde. Joh 8,7 Als sie fortfuhren, ihn beharrlich zu fragen, richtete er sich auf und sprach zu ihnen: Wer von euch ohne Sünde ist, der werfe den ersten Stein auf sie. Joh 8,8 Und wiederum bückte er sich nieder und schrieb auf die Erde. Joh 8,9 Als sie aber dies hörten, gingen sie einer nach dem anderen hinaus, anfangend von den Ältesten bis zu den Letzten. Und Jesus wurde allein gelassen mit der Frau in der Mitte. Joh 8,10 Da richtete Jesus sich auf und sprach zu ihr: Frau, wo sind jene, deine Ankläger? Hat dich niemand verurteilt? Joh 8,11 Sie aber sprach: Niemand, Herr. Jesus sprach zu ihr: So verurteile auch ich dich nicht. Geh hin und sündige hinfort nicht mehr. Joh 8,12 Jesus redete wieder zu ihnen und sprach: Ich bin das Licht der Welt; wer mir nachfolgt, wird nicht in der Finsternis wandeln, sondern wird das Licht des Lebens haben. Joh 8,13 Da sprachen die Pharisäer zu ihm: Du zeugst von dir selbst, dein Zeugnis ist nicht wahr. Joh 8,14 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Auch wenn ich von mir selbst zeuge, ist mein Zeugnis wahr, weil ich weiß, woher ich gekommen bin und wohin ich gehe; ihr aber wisst nicht, woher ich komme und wohin ich gehe. Joh 8,15 Ihr richtet nach dem Fleisch, ich richte niemand. Joh 8,16 Wenn ich aber auch richte, so ist mein Gericht wahr, weil ich nicht allein bin, sondern ich und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 8,17 Es steht aber auch in eurem Gesetz geschrieben, daß das Zeugnis zweier Menschen wahr ist. Joh 8,18 Ich bin es, der von mir selbst zeugt, und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, zeugt von mir. Joh 8,19 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wo ist dein Vater? Jesus antwortete: Ihr kennt weder mich noch meinen Vater, wenn ihr mich gekannt hättet, so würdet ihr auch meinen Vater gekannt haben. Joh 8,20 Diese Worte redete er in der Schatzkammer, lehrend in dem Tempel, und niemand griff ihn, denn seine Stunde war noch nicht gekommen. Joh 8,21 Er sprach nun wieder zu ihnen: Ich gehe hin, und ihr werdet mich suchen und werdet in eurer Sünde sterben. Wo ich hingehe, könnt ihr nicht hinkommen. Joh 8,22 Da sagten die Juden: Er will sich doch nicht selbst töten, daß er spricht: Wo ich hingehe, könnt ihr nicht hinkommen? Joh 8,23 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seid von dem, was unten ist, ich bin von dem, was oben ist. Ihr seid von dieser Welt, ich bin nicht von dieser Welt. Joh 8,24 Daher sagte ich euch, daß ihr in euren Sünden sterben werdet, denn wenn ihr nicht glaubt, daß ich es bin, so werdet ihr in euren Sünden sterben. Joh 8,25 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wer bist du? Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Durchaus das, was ich auch zu euch rede. Joh 8,26 Vieles habe ich über euch zu reden und zu richten, aber der mich gesandt hat, ist wahrhaftig; und ich, was ich von ihm gehört habe, das rede ich zu der Welt. Joh 8,27 Sie erkannten aber nicht, daß er von dem Vater zu ihnen sprach. Joh 8,28 Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Wenn ihr den Sohn des Menschen erhöht haben werdet, dann werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich es bin, und daß ich nichts von mir selbst tue, sondern wie der Vater mich gelehrt hat, das rede ich. Joh 8,29 Und der mich gesandt hat, ist mit mir, er lässt mich nicht allein, weil ich allezeit das ihm Wohlgefällige tue. Joh 8,30 Als er dies redete, glaubten viele an ihn. Joh 8,31 Jesus sprach nun zu den Juden, welche ihm geglaubt hatten: Wenn ihr in meinem Wort bleibt, so seid ihr wahrhaft meine Jünger. Joh 8,32 Und ihr werdet die Wahrheit erkennen, und die Wahrheit wird euch frei machen. Joh 8,33 Sie antworteten ihm: Wir sind Abrahams Same und sind nie jemandes Knechte gewesen. Wie sagst du: Ihr sollt frei werden? Joh 8,34 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Jeder, der die Sünde tut, ist ein Knecht der Sünde. Joh 8,35 Der Knecht aber bleibt nicht für immer in dem Haus, der Sohn bleibt für immer. Joh 8,36 Wenn nun der Sohn euch frei machen wird, so werdet ihr wirklich frei sein. Joh 8,37 Ich weiß, daß ihr Abrahams Same seid, aber ihr sucht mich zu töten, weil mein Wort nicht Raum in euch findet. Joh 8,38 Ich rede, was ich bei meinem Vater gesehen habe, und ihr tut, was ihr von eurem Vater gehört habt. Joh 8,39 Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Abraham ist unser Vater. Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Wenn ihr Abrahams Kinder wärt, so würdet ihr die Werke Abrahams tun. Joh 8,40 Jetzt aber suchet ihr mich zu töten, einen Menschen, der die Wahrheit zu euch geredet hat, die ich von Gott gehört habe. Das hat Abraham nicht getan. Joh 8,41 Ihr tut die Werke eures Vaters. Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wir sind nicht durch Hurerei geboren. Wir haben einen Vater, Gott. Joh 8,42 Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Wenn Gott euer Vater wäre, so würdet ihr mich lieben, denn ich bin von Gott ausgegangen und gekommen, denn ich bin auch nicht von mir selbst gekommen, sondern er hat mich gesandt. Joh 8,43 Warum versteht ihr meine Rede nicht? Weil ihr mein Wort nicht hören könnt. Joh 8,44 Ihr seid aus dem Vater, dem Teufel, und die Begierden eures Vaters wollt ihr tun. Jener war ein Menschenmörder von Anfang an und stand nicht in der Wahrheit, weil keine Wahrheit in ihm ist. Wenn er die Lüge redet, so redet er aus seinem Eigenen, denn er ist ein Lügner und der Vater derselben. Joh 8,45 Weil ich aber die Wahrheit sage, glaubt ihr mir nicht. Joh 8,46 Wer von euch überführt mich einer Sünde? Wenn ich die Wahrheit sage, warum glaubt ihr mir nicht? Joh 8,47 Wer aus Gott ist, der hört die Worte Gottes. Darum hört ihr nicht, weil ihr nicht aus Gott seid. Joh 8,48 Die Juden antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Sagen wir nicht recht, daß du ein Samariter bist und einen Dämon hast? Joh 8,49 Jesus antwortete: Ich habe keinen Dämon, sondern ich ehre meinen Vater, aber ihr entehrt mich. Joh 8,50 Ich aber suche nicht meine Ehre: Es ist einer, der sie sucht, und der richtet. Joh 8,51 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wenn jemand mein Wort bewahren wird, so wird er den Tod nicht sehen in Ewigkeit. Joh 8,52 Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Jetzt erkennen wir, daß du einen Dämon hast. Abraham ist gestorben und die Propheten, und du sagst: Wenn jemand mein Wort bewahren wird, so wird er den Tod nicht schmecken in Ewigkeit. Joh 8,53 Bist du etwa größer als unser Vater Abraham, der gestorben ist? Und die Propheten sind gestorben. Was machst du aus dir selbst? Joh 8,54 Jesus antwortete: Wenn ich mich selbst ehre, so ist meine Ehre nichts. Mein Vater ist es, der mich ehrt, von dem ihr sagt: Er ist unser Gott. Joh 8,55 Und ihr habt ihn nicht erkannt, ich aber kenne ihn, und wenn ich sagte: Ich kenne ihn nicht, so würde ich euch gleich sein, ein Lügner. Aber ich kenne ihn, und ich bewahre sein Wort. Joh 8,56 Abraham, euer Vater, frohlockte, daß er meinen Tag sehen sollte, und er sah ihn und freute sich. Joh 8,57 Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Du bist noch nicht fünfzig Jahre alt und hast Abraham gesehen? Joh 8,58 Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ehe Abraham war, bin ich. Joh 8,59 Da hoben sie Steine auf, um sie auf ihn zu werfen. Jesus aber verbarg sich und ging aus dem Tempel hinaus.

Joh 9,1 Und als er vorüberging, sah er einen Menschen, der blind war von Geburt an. Joh 9,2 Und seine Jünger fragten ihn und sagten: Rabbi, wer hat gesündigt, dieser oder seine Eltern, daß er blind geboren wurde? Joh 9,3 Jesus antwortete: Weder dieser hat gesündigt, noch seine Eltern, sondern es sollen die Werke Gottes an ihm geoffenbart werden. Joh 9,4 Ich muß die Werke dessen wirken, der mich gesandt hat, so lange es Tag ist; es kommt die Nacht, da niemand wirken kann. Joh 9,5 So lange ich in der Welt bin, bin ich das Licht der Welt. Joh 9,6 Als er dies gesagt hatte, spie er auf die Erde und bereitete einen Brei aus dem Speichel und strich den Brei wie Salbe auf seine Augen. Joh 9,7 Und er sprach zu ihm: Gehe hin, wasche dich in dem Teiche Siloah, was übersetzt wird: Gesandter. Da ging er hin und wusch sich und kam sehend. Joh 9,8 Die Nachbarn nun und die ihn früher gesehen hatten, daß er ein Bettler war, sprachen: Ist dieser nicht der, der da saß und bettelte? Joh 9,9 Einige sagten: Er ist es; andere sagten: Nein, sondern er ist ihm ähnlich; er sagte: Ich bin es. Joh 9,10 Da fragten sie ihn: Wie sind deine Augen aufgetan worden? Joh 9,11 Er antwortete: Ein Mensch, genannt Jesus, bereitete einen Brei und salbte meine Augen damit und sprach zu mir: Gehe hin nach Siloah und wasche dich. Als ich aber hinging und mich wusch, wurde ich sehend. Joh 9,12 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wo ist jener? Er sagt: Ich weiß es nicht. Joh 9,13 Sie führen ihn, den einst Blinden, zu den Pharisäern. Joh 9,14 Es war aber Sabbath, als Jesus den Brei bereitete und seine Augen auftat. Joh 9,15 Nun fragten ihn auch die Pharisäer, wie er sehend geworden sei. Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Er legte einen Brei auf meine Augen, und ich wusch mich, und bin sehend. Joh 9,16 Da sprachen etliche von den Pharisäern: Dieser Mensch ist nicht von Gott, denn er hält den Sabbath nicht. Andere sagten: Wie kann ein sündiger Mensch solche Zeichen tun? Und es entstand eine Spaltung unter ihnen. Joh 9,17 Sie sagen nun wiederum zu dem Blinden: Was sagst du von ihm, weil er deine Augen aufgetan hat? Er aber sprach: Er ist ein Prophet. Joh 9,18 Es glaubten nun die Juden nicht von ihm, daß er blind gewesen und sehend geworden war, bis sie die Eltern dessen riefen, der sehend geworden war. Joh 9,19 Und sie fragten sie und sprachen: Ist dieser euer Sohn, von dem ihr sagt, daß er blind geboren wurde? Wie sieht er denn jetzt? Joh 9,20 Seine Eltern antworteten ihnen und sprachen: Wir wissen, daß dieser unser Sohn ist, und daß er blind geboren wurde. Joh 9,21 Wie er aber jetzt sieht, wissen wir nicht, oder wer seine Augen aufgetan hat, wissen wir nicht. Er ist mündig, fragt ihn, er wird selbst über sich reden. Joh 9,22 Dies sagten seine Eltern, weil sie die Juden fürchteten, denn die Juden waren schon übereingekommen, daß, wenn jemand ihn als Christus bekennen würde, er aus der Synagoge ausgeschlossen werden sollte. Joh 9,23 Deswegen sagten seine Eltern: Er ist mündig, fragt ihn. Joh 9,24 Sie riefen nun zum zweiten Male den Menschen, der blind war, und sprachen zu ihm: Gib Gott die Ehre! Wir wissen, daß dieser Mensch ein Sünder ist. Joh 9,25 Da antwortete er: Ob er ein Sünder ist, weiß ich nicht. Eines weiß ich, daß ich blind war und jetzt sehe. Joh 9,26 Und sie sprachen wiederum zu ihm: Was hat er dir getan? Wie tat er deine Augen auf? Joh 9,27 Er antwortete ihnen: Ich habe es euch schon gesagt, und ihr habt nicht gehört. Warum wollt ihr es nochmals hören? Wollt ihr etwa auch seine Jünger werden? Joh 9,28 Sie beschimpften ihn und sprachen: Du bist sein Jünger, wir aber sind Moses‘ Jünger. Joh 9,29 Wir wissen, daß Gott zu Moses geredet hat. Von diesem aber wissen wir nicht, woher er ist. Joh 9,30 Der Mensch antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Hierbei ist es doch verwunderlich, daß ihr nicht wisst, woher er ist, und er hat doch meine Augen aufgetan. Joh 9,31 Wir wissen, daß Gott Sünder nicht hört, sondern wenn jemand gottesfürchtig ist und seinen Willen tut, den hört er. Joh 9,32 Von Ewigkeit her hat man nicht gehört, daß jemand die Augen eines Blindgeborenen aufgetan habe. Joh 9,33 Wenn dieser nicht von Gott wäre, so könnte er nichts tun. Joh 9,34 Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Du bist ganz in Sünden geboren, und du lehrst uns? Und sie warfen ihn hinaus. Joh 9,35 Jesus hörte, daß sie ihn hinausgeworfen hatten; und als er ihn fand, sprach er zu ihm: Glaubst du an den Sohn Gottes? Joh 9,36 Er antwortete und sprach: Und wer ist es, Herr, auf daß ich an ihn glaube? Joh 9,37 Jesus sprach zu ihm: Du hast ihn gesehen, und der mit dir redet, der ist es. Joh 9,38 Er aber sprach: Ich glaube, Herr; und er warf sich vor ihm nieder. Joh 9,39 Und Jesus sprach: Zum Gericht bin ich in diese Welt gekommen, damit die Nichtsehenden sehen und die Sehenden blind werden. Joh 9,40 Das hörten einige von den Pharisäern, die bei ihm waren, und sprachen zu ihm: Sind denn auch wir blind? Joh 9,41 Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Wenn ihr blind wäret, so hättet ihr keine Sünde, weil ihr aber sagt: Wir sehen, deshalb bleibt eure Sünde.

Joh 10,1 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer nicht durch die Tür in den Hof der Schafe hineingeht, sondern anderswo hinübersteigt, der ist ein Dieb und ein Räuber. Joh 10,2 Wer aber durch die Tür hineingeht, ist Hirte der Schafe. Joh 10,3 Diesem macht der Türhüter auf, und die Schafe hören seine Stimme, und er ruft seine eigenen Schafe mit Namen und führt sie heraus. Joh 10,4 Wenn er seine eigenen Schafe alle herausgebracht hat, geht er vor ihnen her, und die Schafe folgen ihm, weil sie seine Stimme kennen. Joh 10,5 Einem Fremden aber werden sie nicht folgen, sondern werden vor ihm fliehen, weil sie die Stimme der Fremden nicht kennen. Joh 10,6 Dieses Gleichnis sprach Jesus zu ihnen; sie verstanden aber nicht, was es war, das er ihnen damit sagte. Joh 10,7 Jesus sprach nun wiederum zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ich bin die Tür der Schafe. Joh 10,8 Alle, die vor mir gekommen sind, sind Diebe und Räuber, aber die Schafe hörten nicht auf sie. Joh 10,9 Ich bin die Tür, wenn jemand durch mich hineingeht, so wird er gerettet werden und wird ein- und ausgehen und Weide finden. Joh 10,10 Der Dieb kommt nur, um zu stehlen und zu schlachten und zu verderben. Ich bin gekommen, damit sie Leben haben und es in Überfluß haben. Joh 10,11 Ich bin der gute Hirte, Der gute Hirte läßt sein Leben für die Schafe. Joh 10,12 Der Mietling aber, der nicht Hirte ist, dem die Schafe nicht gehören, sieht den Wolf kommen und verläßt die Schafe und flieht; und der Wolf raubt und zerstreut sie. Joh 10,13 Der Mietling aber flieht, weil er ein Mietling ist und sich um die Schafe nicht kümmert. Joh 10,14 Ich bin der gute Hirte; und ich kenne die Meinen und die Meinen kennen mich, Joh 10,15 gleichwie der Vater mich kennt und ich den Vater kenne; und ich lasse mein Leben für die Schafe. Joh 10,16 Und ich habe andere Schafe, die nicht aus diesem Hof sind; auch diese muß ich herführen, und sie werden meine Stimme hören, und es wird eine Herde und ein Hirte sein. Joh 10,17 Darum liebt mich der Vater, weil ich mein Leben lasse, damit ich es wiedernehme. Joh 10,18 Niemand nimmt es von mir, sondern ich lasse es von mir selbst. Ich habe Vollmacht, es zu lassen, und habe Vollmacht, es wiederzunehmen. Dieses Gebot habe ich von meinem Vater empfangen. Joh 10,19 Es entstand wiederum eine Spaltung unter den Juden wegen dieser Worte. Joh 10,20 Viele aber von ihnen sagten: Er hat einen Dämon und ist von Sinnen; was hört ihr ihm zu? Joh 10,21 Andere sagten: Diese Reden sind nicht die eines Besessenen. Kann etwa ein Dämon Blinden die Augen auftun? Joh 10,22 Es war damals das Fest der Tempelweihe in Jerusalem, und es war Winter. Joh 10,23 Und Jesus ging in dem Tempel in der Säulenhalle Salomons umher. Joh 10,24 Da umringten ihn die Juden und sprachen zu ihm: Bis wann hältst du unsere Seele im Zweifel? Wenn du der Christus bist, so sage es uns frei heraus. Joh 10,25 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Ich habe es euch gesagt, und ihr glaubt nicht. Die Werke, die ich in dem Namen meines Vaters tue, diese zeugen von mir, Joh 10,26 aber ihr glaubt nicht, denn ihr seid nicht von meinen Schafen, wie ich euch gesagt habe. Joh 10,27 Meine Schafe hören meine Stimme, und ich kenne sie, und sie folgen mir nach. Joh 10,28 Und ich gebe ihnen ewiges Leben, und sie werden in Ewigkeit nicht verloren gehen, und niemand wird sie aus meiner Hand rauben. Joh 10,29 Mein Vater, der sie mir gegeben hat, ist größer als alle, und niemand kann sie aus der Hand meines Vaters rauben. Joh 10,30 Ich und der Vater sind eins. Joh 10,31 Da hoben die Juden wiederum Steine auf, um ihn zu steinigen. Joh 10,32 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Viele gute Werke habe ich euch von meinem Vater gezeigt. Für welches Werk unter diesen steinigt ihr mich? Joh 10,33 Die Juden antworteten ihm: Wegen eines guten Werkes steinigen wir dich nicht, sondern wegen Gotteslästerung, und weil du, der du ein Mensch bist, dich selbst zu Gott machst. Joh 10,34 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Steht nicht in eurem Gesetz geschrieben: „Ich habe gesagt: Ihr seid Götter?“ Joh 10,35 Wenn er jene Götter nannte, zu welchen das Wort Gottes erging, und die Schrift kann nicht aufgelöst werden, Joh 10,36 sagt ihr dann von dem, den der Vater geheiligt und in die Welt gesandt hat: Du lästerst, weil ich sagte: Ich bin Gottes Sohn? – Joh 10,37 Wenn ich nicht die Werke meines Vaters tue, so glaubt mir nicht, Joh 10,38 wenn ich sie aber tue, so glaubt den Werken, wenn ihr auch mir nicht glaubt, damit ihr erkennt und glaubt, daß der Vater in mir ist und ich in ihm. Joh 10,39 Da suchten sie wiederum ihn zu greifen, und er entging ihren Händen. Joh 10,40 Und er ging wieder weg jenseits des Jordan an den Ort, wo Johannes zuerst taufte, und er blieb dort. Joh 10,41 Und viele kamen zu ihm und sagten: Johannes tat zwar kein Zeichen; alles aber, was Johannes von diesem gesagt hat, war wahr. Joh 10,42 Und es glaubten dort viele an ihn.

Joh 11,1 Es war aber ein Gewisser krank, Lazarus von Bethanien, aus dem Dorf der Maria und ihrer Schwester Martha. Joh 11,2 Maria aber war es, die den Herrn mit Salböl salbte und seine Füße mit ihren Haaren abtrocknete; deren Bruder Lazarus war krank. Joh 11,3 Da sandten die Schwestern zu ihm und ließen ihm sagen: Herr, siehe, der, den du lieb hast, ist krank. Joh 11,4 Als aber Jesus es hörte, sprach er: Diese Krankheit ist nicht zum Tode, sondern um der Herrlichkeit Gottes willen, damit der Sohn Gottes durch sie verherrlicht werde. Joh 11,5 Jesus aber liebte die Martha und ihre Schwester und den Lazarus. Joh 11,6 Als er nun hörte, daß er krank sei, blieb er noch zwei Tage an dem Ort, wo er war. Joh 11,7 Dann erst spricht er zu den Jüngern: Laßt uns wieder nach Judäa gehen. Joh 11,8 Die Jünger sagen zu ihm: Rabbi, eben suchten die Juden dich zu steinigen, und wieder gehst du dahin? Joh 11,9 Jesus antwortete: Hat nicht der Tag zwölf Stunden? Wenn jemand am Tage wandelt, stößt er nicht an, weil er das Licht dieser Welt sieht, Joh 11,10 wenn aber jemand in der Nacht wandelt, stößt er an, weil das Licht nicht in ihm ist. Joh 11,11 Dies sprach er, und danach sagt er zu ihnen: Lazarus, unser Freund, ist eingeschlafen, aber ich gehe hin, damit ich ihn aufwecke. Joh 11,12 Da sprachen die Jünger zu ihm: Herr, wenn er eingeschlafen ist, so wird er geheilt werden. Joh 11,13 Jesus aber hatte von seinem Tode gesprochen; sie aber meinten, er rede von der Ruhe des Schlafes. Joh 11,14 Daraufhin sagte ihnen Jesus gerade heraus: Lazarus ist gestorben, Joh 11,15 und ich bin froh um euretwillen, daß ich nicht dort war, damit ihr glaubt, aber laßt uns zu ihm gehen. Joh 11,16 Da sprach Thomas, der Zwilling genannt wird, zu den Mitjüngern: Laßt auch uns gehen, daß wir mit ihm sterben. Joh 11,17 Als nun Jesus kam, fand er ihn schon vier Tage in der Gruft liegen. Joh 11,18 Bethanien aber war nahe bei Jerusalem, etwa fünfzehn Stadien weit, Joh 11,19 und viele von den Juden waren zu Martha und Maria gekommen, um sie über ihren Bruder zu trösten. Joh 11,20 Als Martha nun hörte, daß Jesus kommt, ging sie ihm entgegen. Maria aber saß im Haus. Joh 11,21 Da sprach Martha zu Jesu: Herr, wenn du hier gewesen wärest, so wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben. Joh 11,22 Aber auch jetzt weiß ich, daß, was irgend du von Gott bitten magst, Gott dir geben wird. Joh 11,23 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Dein Bruder wird auferstehen. Joh 11,24 Martha spricht zu ihm: Ich weiß, daß er auferstehen wird in der Auferstehung am letzten Tag. Joh 11,25 Jesus sprach zu ihr: Ich bin die Auferstehung und das Leben; wer an mich glaubt, wird leben, auch wenn er gestorben ist; Joh 11,26 und jeder, der da lebt und an mich glaubt, wird nicht sterben in Ewigkeit. Glaubst du dies? Joh 11,27 Sie spricht zu ihm: Ja, Herr, ich glaube, daß du der Christus bist, der Sohn Gottes, der in die Welt kommen soll. Joh 11,28 Und als sie dies gesagt hatte, ging sie hin und rief ihre Schwester Maria heimlich und sagte: Der Lehrer ist da und ruft dich. Joh 11,29 Als diese es hörte, stand sie schnell auf und ging zu ihm. Joh 11,30 Jesus aber war noch nicht in das Dorf gekommen, sondern war an dem Ort, wo Martha ihm begegnet war. Joh 11,31 Als nun die Juden, die bei ihr im Hause waren und sie trösteten, sahen, daß Maria schnell aufstand und hinausging, folgten sie ihr, indem sie sagten: Sie geht zur Gruft, um dort zu weinen. Joh 11,32 Als nun Maria dahin kam, wo Jesus war, und ihn sah, fiel sie ihm zu Füßen und sprach zu ihm: Herr, wenn du hier gewesen wärest, so wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben. Joh 11,33 Als nun Jesus sie weinen sah, und die Juden weinen, die mit ihr gekommen waren, seufzte er tief im Geist und wurde erschüttert Joh 11,34 und sprach: Wo habt ihr ihn hingelegt? Sie sagen zu ihm: Herr, komm und sieh! Joh 11,35 Jesus weinte. Joh 11,36 Da sprachen die Juden: Siehe, wie lieb hat er ihn gehabt! Joh 11,37 Etliche aber von ihnen sagten: Konnte dieser, der die Augen des Blinden auftat, nicht machen, daß auch dieser nicht gestorben wäre? Joh 11,38 Jesus nun, wiederum tief in sich selbst seufzend, kommt zur Gruft. Es war aber eine Höhle, und ein Stein lag darauf. Joh 11,39 Jesus spricht: Nehmt den Stein weg. Die Schwester des Verstorbenen, Martha, spricht zu ihm: Herr, er riecht schon, denn er ist vier Tage hier. Joh 11,40 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, wenn du glaubst, wirst du die Herrlichkeit Gottes sehen? Joh 11,41 Sie nahmen nun den Stein weg. Jesus aber hob die Augen empor und sprach: Vater, ich danke dir, daß du mich erhört hast. Joh 11,42 Ich aber wußte, daß du mich allezeit erhörst, doch um der Volksmenge willen, die umhersteht, habe ich es gesagt, auf daß sie glauben, daß du mich gesandt hast. Joh 11,43 Und als er dies gesagt hatte, rief er mit lauter Stimme: Lazarus, komm heraus! Joh 11,44 Und der Verstorbene kam heraus, an Füßen und Händen mit Grabtüchern gebunden, und sein Gesicht war mit einem Schweißtuch umbunden. Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Bindet ihn los und laßt ihn gehen. Joh 11,45 Viele nun von den Juden, die zu Maria gekommen waren und sahen, was er getan hatte, glaubten an ihn. Joh 11,46 Einige aber von ihnen gingen hin zu den Pharisäern und sagten ihnen, was Jesus getan hatte. Joh 11,47 Da versammelten die Hohenpriester und die Pharisäer den Hohen Rat und sprachen: Was tun wir? Denn dieser Mensch tut viele Zeichen. Joh 11,48 Wenn wir ihn so fortfahren lassen, werden alle an ihn glauben, und dann kommen die Römer und nehmen unsere Stadt als auch unsere Nation weg. Joh 11,49 Einer aber von ihnen, Kajaphas, der jenes Jahr Hoherpriester war, sprach zu ihnen: Ihr wisst nichts, Joh 11,50 und überlegt auch nicht, daß es euch nützlich ist, daß ein Mensch für das Volk stirbt und nicht die ganze Nation umkommt. Joh 11,51 Dies aber sagte er nicht aus sich selbst, sondern da er jenes Jahr Hoherpriester war, weissagte er, daß Jesus für die Nation sterben sollte; Joh 11,52 und nicht für die Nation allein, sondern daß er auch die zerstreuten Kinder Gottes in eins versammelte. Joh 11,53 Von jenem Tage an ratschlagten sie nun, um ihn zu töten. Joh 11,54 Darum ging Jesus nicht mehr frei unter den Juden umher, sondern ging von dannen hinweg in die Gegend nahe bei der Wüste, in eine Stadt, genannt Ephraim; und daselbst verweilte er mit den Jüngern. Joh 11,55 Es war aber nahe das Passah der Juden, und viele gingen aus dem Land hinauf nach Jerusalem vor dem Passah, um sich zu reinigen. Joh 11,56 Sie suchten nun Jesus und redeten miteinander, als sie im Tempel standen: Was meint ihr, kommt er nicht zu dem Fest? Joh 11,57 Es hatten aber die Hohenpriester und die Pharisäer Befehl gegeben, daß, wenn jemand wisse, wo er sei, er es anzeigen solle, damit sie ihn ergreifen könnten.

Joh 12,1 Jesus nun kam sechs Tage vor dem Passah nach Bethanien, wo Lazarus, der Gestorbene, war, den Jesus aus den Toten auferweckt hatte. Joh 12,2 Sie machten ihm nun dort ein Abendessen, und Martha diente. Lazarus aber war einer von denen, die mit ihm zu Tisch lagen. Joh 12,3 Da nahm Maria ein Pfund Salböl von echter, sehr kostbarer Narde und salbte die Füße Jesu und trocknete seine Füße mit ihren Haaren. Das Haus aber wurde von dem Geruch des Salböls erfüllt. Joh 12,4 Da sprach einer von seinen Jünger, Judas, Simons Sohn, der Iskariot, der ihn später verriet: Joh 12,5 Warum ist dieses Salböl nicht für dreihundert Denare verkauft und es den Armen gegeben worden? Joh 12,6 Er sagte dies aber nicht, weil er für die Armen besorgt war, sondern weil er ein Dieb war und die Kasse hatte und an sich nahm, was eingelegt wurde. Joh 12,7 Da sprach Jesus: Laß sie, damit sie es auf den Tag meines Begräbnisses aufbewahrt habe. Joh 12,8 Denn die Armen habt ihr allezeit bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit. Joh 12,9 Eine große Volksmenge aus den Juden erfuhr nun, daß er dort war; und sie kamen, nicht um Jesu willen allein, sondern damit sie auch den Lazarus sähen, den er aus den Toten auferweckt hatte. Joh 12,10 Die Hohenpriester aber ratschlagten, auch Lazarus zu töten, Joh 12,11 weil viele von den Juden um seinetwillen hingingen und an Jesus glaubten. Joh 12,12 Am folgenden Tag, als eine große Volksmenge, die zu dem Fest gekommen war, hörte, daß Jesus nach Jerusalem komme, Joh 12,13 nahmen sie Palmzweige und gingen hinaus, ihm entgegen, und riefen: Hosanna! Gepriesen sei, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn, der König Israels! Joh 12,14 Jesus aber fand einen jungen Esel und setzte sich darauf, wie geschrieben steht: Joh 12,15 „Fürchte dich nicht, Tochter Zion! Siehe, dein König kommt, sitzend auf einem Eselsfüllen“. Joh 12,16 Dies verstanden seine Jünger zuerst nicht, jedoch als Jesus verherrlicht war, dann erinnerten sie sich, daß dies von ihm geschrieben war und sie ihm dies getan hatten. Joh 12,17 Es bezeugte nun die Volksmenge, die bei ihm war, daß er Lazarus aus dem Grab gerufen und ihn aus den Toten auferweckt hatte. Joh 12,18 Darum ging ihm auch die Volksmenge entgegen, weil sie hörten, daß er dieses Zeichen getan hatte. Joh 12,19 Da sprachen die Pharisäer zueinander: Ihr seht, daß ihr gar nichts ausrichtet. Siehe, die Welt ist ihm nachgegangen. Joh 12,20 Es waren aber einige Griechen unter denen, die hinaufkamen, um auf dem Fest anzubeten. Joh 12,21 Diese kamen zu Philippus, der aus Bethsaida in Galiläa war, und baten ihn und sagten: Herr, wir möchten Jesus sehen. Joh 12,22 Philippus kommt und sagt es Andreas, und Andreas und Philippus sagen es Jesus. Joh 12,23 Jesus aber antwortete ihnen und sprach: Die Stunde ist gekommen, daß der Sohn des Menschen verherrlicht werde. Joh 12,24 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wenn das Weizenkorn nicht in die Erde fällt und stirbt, bleibt es allein, wenn es aber stirbt, bringt es viel Frucht. Joh 12,25 Wer sein Leben liebt, wird es verlieren, und wer sein Leben in dieser Welt haßt, wird es zum ewigen Leben bewahren. Joh 12,26 Wenn mir jemand dient, so folge er mir nach, und wo ich bin, da wird auch mein Diener sein. Wenn mir jemand dient, so wird der Vater ihn ehren. Joh 12,27 Jetzt ist meine Seele bestürzt, und was soll ich sagen? Vater, hilf mir aus dieser Stunde! Doch darum bin ich in diese Stunde gekommen. Joh 12,28 Vater, verherrliche deinen Namen! Da kam eine Stimme aus dem Himmel: Ich habe ihn verherrlicht und werde ihn auch wieder verherrlichen. Joh 12,29 Die Volksmenge nun, die dastand und zuhörte, sagte, es habe gedonnert; andere sagten: Ein Engel hat mit ihm geredet. Joh 12,30 Jesus antwortete und sprach: Nicht um meinetwillen ist diese Stimme geschehen, sondern um euretwillen. Joh 12,31 Jetzt ist das Gericht dieser Welt; jetzt wird der Fürst dieser Welt hinausgeworfen werden. Joh 12,32 Und ich, wenn ich von der Erde erhöht bin, werde alle zu mir ziehen. Joh 12,33 Dies aber sagte er, andeutend, welches Todes er sterben sollte. Joh 12,34 Die Volksmenge antwortete ihm: Wir haben aus dem Gesetz gehört, daß der Christus bleibt in Ewigkeit, und wie sagst du, daß der Sohn des Menschen erhöht werden müsse? Wer ist dieser, der Sohn des Menschen? Joh 12,35 Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Noch eine kleine Zeit ist das Licht unter euch; wandelt, während ihr das Licht habt, damit nicht die Finsternis euch überfalle. Wer in der Finsternis wandelt, weiß nicht, wohin er geht. Joh 12,36 Solange ihr das Licht habt, glaubt an das Licht, damit ihr Söhne des Lichtes werdet. Dieses redete Jesus und ging hinweg und verbarg sich vor ihnen. Joh 12,37 Obwohl er aber so viele Zeichen vor ihnen getan hatte, glaubten sie nicht an ihn, Joh 12,38 damit das Wort des Propheten Jesaja erfüllt würde, welches er sprach: „Herr, wer hat unserer Verkündigung geglaubt, und wem ist der Arm des Herrn geoffenbart worden?“ Joh 12,39 Darum konnten sie nicht glauben, weil Jesaja wieder gesagt hat: Joh 12,40 „Er hat ihre Augen verblendet und ihr Herz verstockt, daß sie nicht sehen mit den Augen und verstehen mit dem Herzen und sich bekehren, und ich sie heile.“ Joh 12,41 Dies sprach Jesaja, weil er seine Herrlichkeit sah und von ihm redete. Joh 12,42 Dennoch glaubten sogar viele von den Obersten an ihn, aber wegen der Pharisäer bekannten sie ihn nicht, auf daß sie nicht aus der Synagoge ausgeschlossen würden. Joh 12,43 Denn sie liebten die Ehre bei den Menschen mehr als die Ehre Gottes. Joh 12,44 Jesus aber rief und sprach: Wer an mich glaubt, glaubt nicht an mich, sondern an den, der mich gesandt hat; Joh 12,45 und wer mich sieht, sieht den, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 12,46 Ich bin als Licht in die Welt gekommen, damit jeder, der an mich glaubt, nicht in der Finsternis bleibt. Joh 12,47 Und wenn jemand meine Worte hört und nicht befolgt, so richte ich ihn nicht, denn ich bin nicht gekommen, daß ich die Welt richte, sondern daß ich die Welt errette. Joh 12,48 Wer mich verwirft und meine Worte nicht annimmt, hat den, der ihn richtet: Das Wort, das ich geredet habe, das wird ihn richten an dem letzten Tag. Joh 12,49 Denn ich habe nicht aus mir selbst geredet, sondern der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, er hat mir ein Gebot gegeben, was ich sagen und was ich reden soll. Joh 12,50 Und ich weiß, daß sein Gebot ewiges Leben ist. Was ich nun rede, das rede ich so, wie es mir der Vater gesagt hat.

Joh 13,1 Vor dem Passahfest aber, als Jesus wußte, daß seine Stunde gekommen war, aus dieser Welt zu dem Vater hinzugehen – da er die Seinigen, die in der Welt waren, geliebt hatte, liebte er sie bis ans Ende. Joh 13,2 Und während des Abendessens, als der Teufel schon dem Judas, Simons Sohn, dem Iskariot, es ins Herz gegeben hatte, daß er ihn überliefere, Joh 13,3 steht Jesus von dem Abendessen auf, wissend, daß der Vater ihm alles in die Hände gegeben, und daß er von Gott ausgegangen war und zu Gott hinging, Joh 13,4 und legt die Oberkleider ab und nahm ein leinenes Tuch und umgürtete sich. Joh 13,5 Dann gießt er Wasser in das Waschbecken und fing an, die Füße der Jünger zu waschen und mit dem leinenen Tuch abzutrocknen, mit dem er umgürtet war. Joh 13,6 Er kommt nun zu Simon Petrus, und der spricht zu ihm: Herr, du wäschst meine Füße? Joh 13,7 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Was ich tue, weißt du jetzt nicht, du wirst es aber danach verstehen. Joh 13,8 Petrus spricht zu ihm: Du sollst nimmermehr meine Füße waschen! Jesus antwortete ihm: Wenn ich dich nicht wasche, so hast du kein Teil mit mir. Joh 13,9 Simon Petrus spricht zu ihm: Herr, nicht meine Füße allein, sondern auch die Hände und das Haupt. Joh 13,10 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Wer gebadet ist, hat nicht nötig sich zu waschen, ausgenommen die Füße, sondern ist ganz rein; und ihr seid rein, aber nicht alle. Joh 13,11 Denn er kannte den, der ihn überlieferte, darum sagte er: Ihr seid nicht alle rein. Joh 13,12 Als er nun ihre Füße gewaschen und seine Oberkleider genommen hatte, legte er sich wiederum zu Tisch und sprach zu ihnen: Wisst ihr, was ich euch getan habe? Joh 13,13 Ihr nennt mich Lehrer und Herr, und ihr sagt recht, denn ich bin es. Joh 13,14 Wenn nun ich, der Herr und der Lehrer, eure Füße gewaschen habe, so seid auch ihr schuldig, einander die Füße zu waschen. Joh 13,15 Denn ich habe euch ein Beispiel gegeben, damit auch ihr so handelt, wie ich euch getan habe. Joh 13,16 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ein Knecht ist nicht größer als sein Herr, noch ein Gesandter größer, als der ihn gesandt hat. Joh 13,17 Wenn ihr dies wisst, glückselig seid ihr, wenn ihr es tut. Joh 13,18 Ich rede nicht von euch allen, ich weiß, welche ich auserwählt habe, aber auf daß die Schrift erfüllt würde: „Der mit mir das Brot ißt, hat seine Ferse wider mich aufgehoben“. Joh 13,19 Von jetzt an sage ich es euch, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr, wenn es geschieht, glaubt, daß ich es bin. Joh 13,20 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer jemanden aufnimmt, den ich senden werde, nimmt mich auf; wer aber mich aufnimmt, nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 13,21 Als Jesus dies gesagt hatte, wurde er im Geist erschüttert und bezeugte und sprach: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich überliefern. Joh 13,22 Da blickten die Jünger einander an und wussten nicht, von wem er rede. Joh 13,23 Einer aber von seinen Jüngern, den Jesus liebte, lag zu Tisch an der Brust Jesu. Joh 13,24 Diesem nun winkt Simon Petrus, damit er fragen möchte, wer es wäre, von dem er redete. Joh 13,25 Da lehnt sich jener an die Brust Jesu und spricht zu ihm: Herr, wer ist es? Joh 13,26 Jesus antwortete: Der ist es, dem ich den Bissen eintauche und gebe. Und als er den Bissen eingetaucht hatte, gibt er ihn dem Judas, Simons Sohn, dem Iskariot. Joh 13,27 Und nach dem Bissen fuhr der Satan in ihn. Jesus spricht nun zu ihm: Was du tust, tue bald. Joh 13,28 Keiner aber von den zu Tisch Liegenden verstand, wozu er ihm dies sagte. Joh 13,29 Denn einige meinten, weil Judas die Kasse hatte, daß Jesus zu ihm sagte: Kaufe, was wir für das Fest bedürfen, oder daß er den Armen etwas geben solle. Joh 13,30 Als nun jener den Bissen genommen hatte, ging er sogleich hinaus. Es war aber Nacht. Joh 13,31 Als er nun hinausgegangen war, spricht Jesus: Jetzt ist der Sohn des Menschen verherrlicht, und Gott ist verherrlicht in ihm. Joh 13,32 Wenn Gott verherrlicht ist in ihm, so wird auch Gott ihn verherrlichen in sich selbst, und er wird ihn sogleich verherrlichen. Joh 13,33 Kinder, noch eine kleine Weile bin ich bei euch; ihr werdet mich suchen, und wie ich den Juden sagte: Wo ich hingehe, könnt ihr nicht hinkommen, so sage ich jetzt auch euch. Joh 13,34 Ein neues Gebot gebe ich euch, daß ihr einander liebt, damit, wie ich euch geliebt habe, auch ihr einander liebt. Joh 13,35 Daran werden alle erkennen, daß ihr meine Jünger seid, wenn ihr Liebe untereinander habt. Joh 13,36 Simon Petrus spricht zu ihm: Herr, wohin gehst du? Jesus antwortete ihm: Wo ich hingehe, kannst du mir jetzt nicht folgen; du wirst mir aber später folgen. Joh 13,37 Petrus spricht zu ihm: Herr, warum kann ich dir jetzt nicht folgen? Mein Leben will ich für dich lassen. Joh 13,38 Jesus antwortete ihm: Dein Leben willst du für mich lassen? Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir, der Hahn wird nicht krähen, bis du mich dreimal verleugnet hast.

Joh 14,1 Euer Herz werde nicht erschüttert. Glaubt an Gott, glaubt auch an mich. Joh 14,2 In dem Haus meines Vaters sind viele Wohnungen; wenn es nicht so wäre, würde ich euch gesagt haben; Ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten. Joh 14,3 Und wenn ich hingehe und euch eine Stätte bereite, so komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, damit auch ihr seid, wo ich bin. Joh 14,4 Und wo ich hingehe, wisst ihr, und den Weg kennt ihr. Joh 14,5 Thomas spricht zu ihm: Herr, wir wissen nicht, wo du hingehst, und wie können wir den Weg kennen? Joh 14,6 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben. Niemand kommt zum Vater, als nur durch mich. Joh 14,7 Wenn ihr mich erkannt habt, so werdet ihr auch meinen Vater erkennen. Und von jetzt an erkennt ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen. Joh 14,8 Philippus spricht zu ihm: Herr, zeige uns den Vater, und es genügt uns. Joh 14,9 Jesus spricht zu ihm: So lange Zeit bin ich bei euch, und du hast mich nicht erkannt, Philippus? Wer mich gesehen hat, hat den Vater gesehen, und wie sagst du: Zeige uns den Vater? Joh 14,10 Glaubst du nicht, daß ich in dem Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist? Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, rede ich nicht von mir selbst; der Vater aber, der in mir bleibt, er tut die Werke. Joh 14,11 Glaubt mir, daß ich in dem Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist; wenn aber nicht, so glaubt mir um der Werke selbst willen. Joh 14,12 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, der wird auch die Werke tun, die ich tue, und wird größere als diese tun, weil ich zum Vater gehe. Joh 14,13 Und was ihr bitten werdet in meinem Namen, das werde ich tun, damit der Vater verherrlicht wird in dem Sohn. Joh 14,14 Wenn ihr etwas bitten werdet in meinem Namen, so werde ich es tun. Joh 14,15 Wenn ihr mich liebt, so haltet meine Gebote; Joh 14,16 und ich werde den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Beistand geben, daß er bei euch sei in Ewigkeit, Joh 14,17 den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, weil sie ihn nicht sieht noch ihn kennt. Ihr kennt ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein. Joh 14,18 Ich werde euch nicht als Waisen zurücklassen, ich komme zu euch. Joh 14,19 Noch eine kleine Weile, und die Welt sieht mich nicht mehr; ihr aber seht mich: Weil ich lebe, werdet auch ihr leben. Joh 14,20 An jenem Tag werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich in meinem Vater bin und ihr in mir und ich in euch. Joh 14,21 Wer meine Gebote hat und sie hält, der ist es, der mich liebt; wer aber mich liebt, wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden; und ich werde ihn lieben und mich selbst ihm offenbaren. Joh 14,22 Judas, nicht der Iskariot, spricht zu ihm: Herr, wie kommt es, daß du dich uns offenbaren willst, und nicht der Welt? Joh 14,23 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn jemand mich liebt, so wird er mein Wort halten, und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm machen. Joh 14,24 Wer mich nicht liebt, befolgt meine Worte nicht; und das Wort, das ihr hört, ist nicht mein, sondern des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 14,25 Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, während ich bei euch bin. Joh 14,26 Der Beistand aber, der Heilige Geist, den der Vater senden wird in meinem Namen, der wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe. Joh 14,27 Frieden lasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch; nicht wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz werde nicht bestürzt, sei auch nicht furchtsam. Joh 14,28 Ihr habt gehört, daß ich euch gesagt habe: Ich gehe hin, und ich komme zu euch. Wenn ihr mich lieb hättet, so würdet ihr euch freuen, daß ich zum Vater gehe, denn mein Vater ist größer als ich. Joh 14,29 Und jetzt habe ich es euch gesagt, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr glaubt, wenn es geschieht. Joh 14,30 Ich werde nicht mehr vieles mit euch reden, denn der Fürst der Welt kommt und hat keine Macht über mich. Joh 14,31 Aber die Welt soll erkennen, daß ich den Vater liebe und so tue, wie mir der Vater geboten hat. Steht auf und lasst uns von hier fortgehen.

Joh 15,1 Ich bin der wahre Weinstock, und mein Vater ist der Weingärtner. Joh 15,2 Jede Rebe an mir, die nicht Frucht bringt, die nimmt er weg; und jede, die Frucht bringt, die reinigt er, daß sie mehr Frucht bringe. Joh 15,3 Ihr seid schon rein um des Wortes willen, das ich zu euch geredet habe. Joh 15,4 Bleibt in mir, und ich in euch. Gleichwie die Rebe nicht von sich selbst Frucht bringen kann, sie bleibe denn am Weinstock, so auch ihr nicht, ihr bleibt denn in mir. Joh 15,5 Ich bin der Weinstock, ihr seid die Reben. Wer in mir bleibt und ich in ihm, dieser bringt viel Frucht, denn getrennt von mir könnt ihr nichts tun. Joh 15,6 Wenn jemand nicht in mir bleibt, so wird er hinausgeworfen wie die Rebe und verdorrt; und man sammelt sie und wirft sie ins Feuer, und sie verbrennen. Joh 15,7 Wenn ihr in mir bleibt und meine Worte in euch bleiben, so werdet ihr bitten, was ihr wollt, und es wird euch geschehen. Joh 15,8 Hierin wird mein Vater verherrlicht, daß ihr viel Frucht bringt und werdet meine Jünger. Joh 15,9 Gleichwie der Vater mich geliebt hat, habe auch ich euch geliebt. Bleibt in meiner Liebe. Joh 15,10 Wenn ihr meine Gebote haltet, so werdet ihr in meiner Liebe bleiben, so wie ich die Gebote meines Vaters gehalten habe und in seiner Liebe bleibe. Joh 15,11 Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, damit meine Freude in euch sei und eure Freude vollkommen werde. Joh 15,12 Dies ist mein Gebot, daß ihr einander liebt, wie ich euch geliebt habe. Joh 15,13 Größere Liebe hat niemand als diese, daß jemand sein Leben läßt für seine Freunde. Joh 15,14 Ihr seid meine Freunde, wenn ihr tut, was ich euch gebiete. Joh 15,15 Ich nenne euch nicht mehr Knechte, denn der Knecht weiß nicht, was sein Herr tut; aber ich habe euch Freunde genannt, weil ich alles verkündet habe, was ich von meinem Vater gehört habe. Joh 15,16 Ihr habt nicht mich erwählt, sondern ich habe euch erwählt und euch gesetzt, daß ihr hingeht und Frucht bringt und eure Frucht bleibt, damit, was ihr den Vater bitten werdet in meinem Namen, er euch gebe. Joh 15,17 Dies gebiete ich euch, daß ihr einander liebt. Joh 15,18 Wenn die Welt euch haßt, so wisst, daß sie mich vor euch gehaßt hat. Joh 15,19 Wenn ihr von der Welt wäret, würde die Welt das Ihre lieben; weil ihr aber nicht von der Welt seid, sondern ich euch aus der Welt auserwählt habe, darum haßt euch die Welt. Joh 15,20 Gedenkt des Wortes, das ich zu euch gesagt habe: Ein Knecht ist nicht größer als sein Herr. Wenn sie mich verfolgt haben, werden sie auch euch verfolgen; wenn sie mein Wort gehalten haben, werden sie auch das eure halten. Joh 15,21 Aber dies alles werden sie euch tun um meines Namens willen, weil sie den nicht kennen, der mich gesandt hat. Joh 15,22 Wenn ich nicht gekommen wäre und zu ihnen geredet hätte, so hätten sie keine Sünde; jetzt aber haben sie keinen Vorwand für ihre Sünde. Joh 15,23 Wer mich haßt, haßt auch meinen Vater. Joh 15,24 Wenn ich nicht die Werke unter ihnen getan hätte, die kein anderer getan hat, so hätten sie keine Sünde; jetzt aber haben sie es gesehen und hassen doch sowohl mich als auch meinen Vater. Joh 15,25 Aber es muss das Wort erfüllt werden, das in ihrem Gesetz geschrieben steht: „Sie hassen mich ohne Ursache“. Joh 15,26 Wenn aber der Beistand gekommen ist, den ich euch von dem Vater senden werde, der Geist der Wahrheit, der von dem Vater ausgeht, so wird er von mir zeugen. Joh 15,27 Aber auch ihr werdet Zeugnis geben, weil ihr von Anfang an bei mir seid.

Joh 16,1 Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, daß ihr nicht zu Fall kommt. Joh 16,2 Sie werden euch aus der Synagoge ausschließen; es kommt aber die Stunde, daß jeder, der euch tötet, meinen wird, Gott einen Dienst darzubringen. Joh 16,3 Und dies werden sie tun, weil sie weder den Vater noch mich erkannt haben. Joh 16,4 Dies aber habe ich zu euch geredet, damit ihr daran denkt, wenn die Stunde gekommen ist, daß ich es euch gesagt habe. Dieses aber habe ich euch von Anfang nicht gesagt, weil ich bei euch war. Joh 16,5 Jetzt aber gehe ich hin zu dem, der mich gesandt hat, und niemand von euch fragt mich: Wo gehst du hin? Joh 16,6 Doch weil ich dies zu euch geredet habe, hat Traurigkeit euer Herz erfüllt. Joh 16,7 Doch ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Es ist euch nützlich, daß ich weggehe, denn wenn ich nicht weggehe, wird der Beistand nicht zu euch kommen; wenn ich aber hingehe, werde ich ihn zu euch senden. Joh 16,8 Und wenn er gekommen ist, wird er die Welt überführen von Sünde und von Gerechtigkeit und von Gericht. Joh 16,9 Von Sünde, weil sie nicht an mich glauben; Joh 16,10 von Gerechtigkeit aber, weil ich zum Vater gehe, und ihr mich nicht mehr seht; Joh 16,11 von Gericht aber, weil der Fürst dieser Welt gerichtet ist. Joh 16,12 Noch vieles habe ich euch zu sagen, aber ihr könnt es jetzt nicht tragen. Joh 16,13 Wenn aber jener, der Geist der Wahrheit, gekommen ist, wird er euch in die ganze Wahrheit leiten; denn er wird nicht aus sich selbst reden, sondern was er hören wird, wird er reden, und das Kommende wird er euch verkündigen. Joh 16,14 Er wird mich verherrlichen, denn von dem Meinen wird er empfangen und euch verkündigen. Joh 16,15 Alles, was der Vater hat, ist mein; darum sagte ich, daß er von dem Meinen empfängt und euch verkündigen wird. Joh 16,16 Noch eine kleine Weile, und ihr werdet mich nicht mehr sehen, und wiederum eine kleine Weile, und ihr werdet mich sehen, weil ich zu dem Vater gehe. Joh 16,17 Es sprachen nun einige von seinen Jüngern zueinander: Was ist dies, das er zu uns sagt: Über ein kleine Weile, und ihr seht mich nicht, und wiederum über ein kleine Weile, und ihr werdet mich sehen, und: Weil ich zu dem Vater gehe? Joh 16,18 Da sprachen sie: Was ist das für eine kleine Weile, wovon er redet? Wir wissen nicht, was er sagt. Joh 16,19 Jesus erkannte, daß sie ihn fragen wollten, und sprach zu ihnen: Forscht ihr darüber untereinander, daß ich sagte: Über ein Kleines, und ihr seht mich nicht, und wiederum über eine kleine Weile, und ihr werdet mich sehen? Joh 16,20 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, daß ihr weinen und wehklagen werdet, aber die Welt wird sich freuen; ihr werdet traurig sein, aber eure Traurigkeit wird zur Freude werden. Joh 16,21 Eine Frau, wenn sie gebiert, hat Traurigkeit, weil ihre Stunde gekommen ist; wenn sie aber das Kind geboren hat, gedenkt sie nicht mehr der Drangsal, um der Freude willen, daß ein Mensch zur Welt gekommen ist. Joh 16,22 Auch ihr habt nun Traurigkeit; aber ich werde euch wiedersehen, und euer Herz wird sich freuen, und eure Freude nimmt niemand von euch. Joh 16,23 Und an jenem Tag werdet ihr mich nichts fragen. Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Was ihr den Vater bitten werdet in meinem Namen, wird er euch geben. Joh 16,24 Bis jetzt habt ihr nichts gebeten in meinem Namen. Bittet, und ihr werdet empfangen, damit eure Freude völlig sei. Joh 16,25 Dies habe ich in Gleichnissen zu euch geredet; es kommt die Stunde, da ich nicht mehr in Gleichnissen zu euch reden, sondern euch offen von dem Vater verkündigen werde. Joh 16,26 An jenem Tag werdet ihr bitten in meinem Namen, und ich sage euch nicht, daß ich den Vater für euch bitten werde; Joh 16,27 denn der Vater selbst hat euch lieb, weil ihr mich geliebt und geglaubt habt, daß ich von Gott ausgegangen bin. Joh 16,28 Ich bin von dem Vater ausgegangen und bin in die Welt gekommen; wiederum verlasse ich die Welt und gehe zum Vater. Joh 16,29 Seine Jünger sprechen zu ihm: Siehe, jetzt redest du offen und gebrauchst kein Gleichnis. Joh 16,30 Jetzt wissen wir, daß du alles weißt und nicht nötig hast, daß dich jemand fragt. Darum glauben wir, daß du von Gott ausgegangen bist. Joh 16,31 Jesus antwortete ihnen: Glaubt ihr jetzt? Joh 16,32 Siehe, es kommt die Stunde und ist gekommen, daß ihr zerstreut sein werdet, ein jeder in das Seine und mich allein lassen werdet. Aber ich bin nicht allein, denn der Vater ist bei mir. Joh 16,33 Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, damit ihr in mir Frieden habt. In der Welt habt ihr Drangsal; aber seid guten Mutes, ich habe die Welt überwunden.

Joh 17,1 Dies redete Jesus und hob seine Augen auf zum Himmel und sprach: Vater, die Stunde ist gekommen. Verherrliche deinen Sohn, damit dein Sohn dich verherrliche. Joh 17,2 Gleichwie du ihm Macht gegeben hast über alles Fleisch, daß er allen, die du ihm gegeben hast, ewiges Leben gibt. Joh 17,3 Dies aber ist das ewige Leben, daß sie dich, den allein wahren Gott, und den du gesandt hast, Jesus Christus, erkennen. Joh 17,4 Ich habe dich verherrlicht auf der Erde; das Werk habe ich vollbracht, das du mir gegeben hast, daß ich es tun sollte. Joh 17,5 Und nun verherrliche du, Vater, mich bei dir selbst mit der Herrlichkeit, die ich bei dir hatte, ehe die Welt war. Joh 17,6 Ich habe deinen Namen geoffenbart den Menschen, die du mir aus der Welt gegeben hast. Sie waren Dein, und du hast sie mir gegeben, und sie haben dein Wort bewahrt. Joh 17,7 Jetzt haben sie erkannt, daß alles, was du mir gegeben hast, von dir kommt; Joh 17,8 denn die Worte, die du mir gegeben hast, habe ich ihnen gegeben, und sie haben sie angenommen und wahrhaftig erkannt, daß ich von dir ausgegangen bin, und haben geglaubt, daß du mich gesandt hast. Joh 17,9 Ich bitte für sie; nicht für die Welt bitte ich, sondern für die, die du mir gegeben hast, denn sie sind dein. Joh 17,10 Und alles, was mein ist, ist dein, und was dein ist, mein; und ich bin in ihnen verherrlicht. Joh 17,11 Und ich bin nicht mehr in der Welt, und diese sind in der Welt, und ich komme zu dir. Heiliger Vater! Bewahre sie in deinem Namen, den du mir gegeben hast, auf daß sie eins seien wie wir. Joh 17,12 Als ich bei ihnen war, bewahrte ich sie in deinem Namen, den du mir gegeben hast; und ich habe sie behütet, und keiner von ihnen ist verloren, als nur der Sohn des Verderbens, damit die Schrift erfüllt werde. Joh 17,13 Jetzt aber komme ich zu dir und rede dies in der Welt, damit sie meine Freude völlig in sich haben. Joh 17,14 Ich habe ihnen dein Wort gegeben, und die Welt hat sie gehaßt, weil sie nicht von der Welt sind, wie ich nicht von der Welt bin. Joh 17,15 Ich bitte nicht, daß du sie aus der Welt wegnimmst, sondern daß du sie bewahrst vor dem Bösen. Joh 17,16 Sie sind nicht von der Welt, wie ich nicht von der Welt bin. Joh 17,17 Heilige sie durch die Wahrheit. Dein Wort ist Wahrheit. Joh 17,18 Wie du mich in die Welt gesandt hast, so habe auch ich sie in die Welt gesandt. Joh 17,19 Und ich heilige mich selbst für sie, damit auch sie geheiligt seien in der Wahrheit. Joh 17,20 Aber nicht für diese allein bitte ich, sondern auch für die, die durch ihr Wort an mich glauben, Joh 17,21 damit sie alle eins seien, wie du, Vater, in mir und ich in dir, daß auch sie in uns eins seien, damit die Welt glaube, daß du mich gesandt hast. Joh 17,22 Und die Herrlichkeit, die du mir gegeben hast, habe ich ihnen gegeben, daß sie eins seien, wie wir eins sind, Joh 17,23 ich in ihnen und du in mir, daß sie vollkommen eins seien, damit die Welt erkenne, daß du mich gesandt und sie geliebt hast, wie du mich geliebt hast. Joh 17,24 Vater, ich will, daß die, welche du mir gegeben hast, auch bei mir seien, wo ich bin, damit sie meine Herrlichkeit schauen, die du mir gegeben hast, denn du hast mich geliebt vor Grundlegung der Welt. Joh 17,25 Gerechter Vater, die Welt erkennt dich nicht; ich aber erkenne dich, und diese haben erkannt, daß du mich gesandt hast. Joh 17,26 Und ich habe ihnen deinen Namen kundgetan und werde ihn kundtun, damit die Liebe, mit der du mich liebst, in ihnen sei und ich in ihnen.

Joh 18,1 Als Jesus dies gesagt hatte, ging er mit seinen Jüngern hinaus über den Bach Kidron. Dort war ein Garten, in den er und seine Jünger eintraten. Joh 18,2 Aber auch Judas, der ihn überlieferte, kannte den Ort, weil Jesus dort oft mit seinen Jüngern zusammen war. Joh 18,3 Als nun Judas die Schar der Soldaten und Knechte von den Hohenpriestern und Pharisäern mit sich genommen hatte, kam er dorthin mit Fackeln, Lampen und Waffen. Joh 18,4 Jesus nun, der alles wußte, was über ihn kommen würde, ging hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Wen sucht ihr? Joh 18,5 Sie antworteten ihm: Jesus, den Nazarener. Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Ich bin es. Aber auch Judas, der ihn überlieferte, stand bei ihnen. Joh 18,6 Als er nun zu ihnen sagte: Ich bin es, wichen sie zurück und fielen zu Boden. Joh 18,7 Da fragte er sie abermals: Wen sucht ihr? Sie aber sprachen: Jesus, den Nazarener. Joh 18,8 Jesus antwortete: Ich habe euch gesagt, daß ich es bin; wenn ihr nun mich sucht, so laßt diese gehen. Joh 18,9 Damit das Wort erfüllt würde, das er gesagt hatte: Von denen, die du mir gegeben hast, habe ich keinen verloren. Joh 18,10 Simon Petrus nun, der ein Schwert hatte, zog es und schlug den Knecht des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm das rechte Ohr ab. Der Name des Knechtes aber war Malchus. Joh 18,11 Da sprach Jesus zu Petrus: Stecke das Schwert in die Scheide. Soll ich den Kelch nicht trinken, den mir der Vater gegeben hat? Joh 18,12 Die Schar nun und der Oberste und die Diener der Juden ergriffen Jesus und banden ihn; Joh 18,13 und sie führten ihn zuerst hin zu Hannas, denn er war Schwiegervater des Kajaphas, der jenes Jahr Hoherpriester war. Joh 18,14 Kajaphas aber war es, der den Juden geraten hatte, es sei nützlich, daß ein Mensch für das Volk sterbe. Joh 18,15 Simon Petrus aber folgte Jesu nach und ein anderer Jünger. Dieser Jünger aber war dem Hohenpriester bekannt und ging mit Jesu hinein in den Hof des Hohenpriesters. Joh 18,16 Petrus aber stand an der Tür draußen. Da ging der andere Jünger, der dem Hohenpriester bekannt war, hinaus und sprach mit der Türhüterin und führte Petrus hinein. Joh 18,17 Da spricht die Magd, die Türhüterin, zu Petrus: Bist nicht auch du einer von den Jüngern dieses Menschen? Er sagt: Ich bin es nicht. Joh 18,18 Es standen aber die Knechte und die Diener um ein Kohlenfeuer, das sie gemacht hatten, denn es war kalt, und sie wärmten sich. Aber auch Petrus stand bei ihnen und wärmte sich. Joh 18,19 Der Hohepriester nun befragte Jesus über seine Jünger und über seine Lehre. Joh 18,20 Jesus antwortete ihm: Ich habe öffentlich zu der Welt geredet. Ich habe allezeit in der Synagoge und in dem Tempel gelehrt, wo alle Juden zusammenkommen, und im Verborgenen habe ich nichts geredet. Joh 18,21 Was fragst du mich? Frage die, welche gehört, was ich zu ihnen geredet habe. Siehe, diese wissen, was ich gesagt habe. Joh 18,22 Als er aber dies sagte, schlug einer der Diener, der dabeistand, Jesus ins Gesicht und sagte: Antwortest du so dem Hohenpriester? Joh 18,23 Jesus antwortete ihm: Wenn ich übel geredet habe, so gib Zeugnis von dem Übel; wenn aber recht, was schlägst du mich? Joh 18,24 Hannas nun sandte ihn gebunden zu Kajaphas, dem Hohenpriester. Joh 18,25 Simon Petrus aber stand da und wärmte sich. Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Bist nicht auch du einer von seinen Jüngern? Er leugnete und sprach: Ich bin es nicht. Joh 18,26 Es spricht einer von den Knechten des Hohenpriesters, der ein Verwandter dessen war, dem Petrus das Ohr abgehauen hatte: Sah ich dich nicht in dem Garten bei ihm? Joh 18,27 Da leugnete Petrus abermals, und alsbald krähte der Hahn. Joh 18,28 Sie führen nun Jesus von Kajaphas in das Prätorium. Es war aber frühmorgens. Und sie gingen nicht hinein in das Prätorium, damit sie sich nicht verunreinigten, sondern das Passahmahl essen könnten. Joh 18,29 Pilatus ging nun zu ihnen hinaus und sprach: Welche Anklage bringt ihr wider diesen Menschen? Joh 18,30 Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Wenn dieser nicht ein Übeltäter wäre, würden wir ihn dir nicht überliefert haben. Joh 18,31 Da sprach Pilatus zu ihnen: Nehmt ihr ihn und richtet ihn nach eurem Gesetz. Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Es ist uns nicht erlaubt, jemanden zu töten. Joh 18,32 So sollte das Wort Jesu erfüllt würde, das er sprach, andeutend, welches Todes er sterben sollte. Joh 18,33 Pilatus ging nun wieder hinein in das Prätorium und rief Jesus und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der König der Juden? Joh 18,34 Jesus antwortete ihm: Sagst du dies von dir selbst, oder haben es dir andere von mir gesagt? Joh 18,35 Pilatus antwortete: Bin ich etwa ein Jude? Deine Nation und die Hohenpriester haben dich mir überantwortet. Was hast du getan? Joh 18,36 Jesus antwortete: Mein Reich ist nicht von dieser Welt; wenn mein Reich von dieser Welt wäre, so hätten meine Diener gekämpft, damit ich den Juden nicht ausgeliefert würde; aber nun ist mein Reich nicht von hier. Joh 18,37 Da sprach Pilatus zu ihm: Also bist du doch ein König? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es, daß ich ein König bin. Ich bin dazu geboren und dazu in die Welt gekommen, daß ich der Wahrheit Zeugnis gebe. Jeder, der aus der Wahrheit ist, hört meine Stimme. Joh 18,38 Pilatus spricht zu ihm: Was ist Wahrheit? Und als er dies gesagt hatte, ging er wieder zu den Juden hinaus und spricht zu ihnen: Ich finde keinerlei Schuld an ihm. Joh 18,39 Ihr habt aber eine Gewohnheit, daß ich euch an dem Passah einen losgebe. Wollt ihr nun, daß ich euch den König der Juden freigebe? Joh 18,40 Da schrieen wiederum alle und sagten: Nicht diesen, sondern den Barabbas! Barabbas aber war ein Räuber.

Joh 19,1 Da nahm Pilatus Jesus und ließ ihn geißeln. Joh 19,2 Und die Kriegsknechte flochten eine Krone aus Dornen und setzten sie auf sein Haupt und warfen ihm ein Purpurkleid um; Joh 19,3 und sie traten zu ihm und sagten: Sei gegrüßt, König der Juden! Und sie schlugen ihm ins Gesicht. Joh 19,4 Und Pilatus ging wieder hinaus und spricht zu ihnen: Siehe, ich führe ihn zu euch heraus, damit ihr erkennt, daß ich keine Schuld an ihm finde. Joh 19,5 Da kam Jesus heraus und trug die Dornenkrone und das Purpurkleid. Und er spricht zu ihnen: Seht, welch ein Mensch! Joh 19,6 Als ihn nun die Hohenpriester und die Diener sahen, schrien sie und sagten: Kreuzige, kreuzige ihn! Pilatus spricht zu ihnen: Nehmt ihr ihn hin und kreuzigt ihn, denn ich finde keine Schuld an ihm. Joh 19,7 Die Juden antworteten ihm: Wir haben ein Gesetz, und nach dem Gesetz muß er sterben, weil er sich selbst zu Gottes Sohn gemacht hat. Joh 19,8 Als nun Pilatus dieses Wort hörte, fürchtete er sich noch mehr, Joh 19,9 und er ging wieder hinein in das Prätorium und spricht zu Jesu: Wo bist du her? Jesus aber gab ihm keine Antwort. Joh 19,10 Da spricht Pilatus zu ihm: Redest du nicht mit mir? Weißt du nicht, daß ich Macht habe, dich loszugeben, und Gewalt habe, dich zu kreuzigen? Joh 19,11 Jesus antwortete: Du hättest keinerlei Macht über mich, wenn sie dir nicht von oben gegeben wäre. Darum hat der, der mich dir überliefert hat, größere Sünde. Joh 19,12 Von da an suchte Pilatus ihn loszugeben. Die Juden aber schrien und sagten: Wenn du diesen losgibst, so bist du kein Freund des Kaisers. Jeder, der sich selbst zum König macht, der ist gegen den Kaiser. Joh 19,13 Als nun Pilatus diese Worte hörte, führte er Jesus hinaus und setzte sich auf den Richterstuhl an einen Ort, genannt Steinpflaster, auf Hebräisch aber Gabbatha. Joh 19,14 Es war aber Rüsttag für das Passah, um die sechste Stunde. Und er spricht zu den Juden: Siehe, euer König! Joh 19,15 Sie aber schrien: Weg, weg mit ihm! Kreuzige ihn! Pilatus spricht zu ihnen: Euren König soll ich kreuzigen? Die Hohenpriester antworteten: Wir haben keinen König, als nur den Kaiser. Joh 19,16 Dann überlieferte er ihnen Jesus, auf daß er gekreuzigt würde. Sie aber nahmen Jesus und führten ihn fort. Joh 19,17 Und sein Kreuz tragend, ging er hinaus nach der Stätte, genannt Schädelstätte, die auf Hebräisch Golgatha heißt, Joh 19,18 wo sie ihn kreuzigten, und zwei andere mit ihm, auf dieser und auf jener Seite, Jesus aber in der Mitte. Joh 19,19 Pilatus schrieb aber auch eine Überschrift und setzte sie an das Kreuz. Es war aber geschrieben: Jesus, der Nazarener, der König der Juden. Joh 19,20 Diese Überschrift nun lasen viele von den Juden, denn die Stätte, wo Jesus gekreuzigt wurde, war nahe bei der Stadt. Und es war geschrieben auf Hebräisch, Griechisch und Lateinisch. Joh 19,21 Da sagten die Hohenpriester der Juden zu Pilatus: Schreibe nicht: Der König der Juden, sondern daß jener gesagt hat: Ich bin König der Juden. Joh 19,22 Pilatus antwortete: Was ich geschrieben habe, das habe ich geschrieben. Joh 19,23 Die Soldaten aber, da sie Jesus gekreuzigt hatten, nahmen seine Kleider und machten vier Teile, für jeden Soldaten einen Teil, und dazu das Untergewand. Das Untergewand aber war ohne Naht, von oben bis unten in einem Stück gewoben. Joh 19,24 Da sprachen sie zueinander: Laßt uns das nicht zerteilen, sondern darum losen, wem es gehören soll. So sollte die Schrift erfüllt werden, die spricht: „Sie haben meine Kleider unter sich verteilt, und über mein Gewand haben sie das Los geworfen“. Die Soldaten nun haben dies getan. Joh 19,25 Es standen aber bei dem Kreuz Jesu seine Mutter und die Schwester seiner Mutter, Maria, des Kleopas Frau, und Maria Magdalena. Joh 19,26 Als nun Jesus seine Mutter sah und den Jünger, den er lieb hatte, dabeistehen, spricht er zu seiner Mutter: Frau, siehe, dein Sohn! Joh 19,27 Dann spricht er zu dem Jünger: Siehe, deine Mutter! Und von jener Stunde an nahm der Jünger sie zu sich. Joh 19,28 Danach,als Jesus wußte, daß alles schon vollbracht war, spricht er, auf daß die Schrift erfüllt würde: Mich dürstet! Joh 19,29 Es stand nun ein Gefäß voll Essig da. Sie aber füllten einen Schwamm mit Essig und legten ihn um einen Ysop und hielten ihn an seinen Mund. Joh 19,30 Als nun Jesus den Essig genommen hatte, sprach er: Es ist vollbracht! Und er neigte das Haupt und übergab den Geist. Joh 19,31 Die Juden nun baten den Pilatus, damit die Leiber nicht am Sabbath am Kreuz blieben, weil es Rüsttag war – denn der Tag jenes Sabbaths war groß -, daß ihre Beine gebrochen und sie abgenommen würden. Joh 19,32 Da kamen die Kriegsknechte und brachen die Beine des ersten und des anderen, der mit ihm gekreuzigt war. Joh 19,33 Als sie aber zu Jesu kamen und sahen, daß er schon gestorben war, brachen sie ihm die Beine nicht, Joh 19,34 sondern einer der Kriegsknechte durchbohrte mit einem Speer seine Seite, und sogleich kam Blut und Wasser heraus. Joh 19,35 Und der es gesehen hat, hat es bezeugt, und sein Zeugnis ist wahr, und er weiß, daß er die Wahrheit sagt, damit auch ihr glaubt. Joh 19,36 Denn dies geschah, damit die Schrift erfüllt würde: „Kein Bein von ihm wird zerbrochen werden“. Joh 19,37 Und wieder sagt eine andere Schrift: „Sie werden den anschauen, den sie durchstochen haben“. Joh 19,38 Nach diesem aber bat Joseph von Arimathäa, der ein Jünger Jesu war, aber aus Furcht vor den Juden ein verborgener, den Pilatus, daß er den Leib Jesu abnehmen dürfe. Und Pilatus erlaubte es. Da kam er und nahm den Leib Jesu ab. Joh 19,39 Es kam aber auch Nikodemus, der zuerst bei Nacht zu Jesu gekommen war, und brachte eine Mischung von Myrrhe und Aloe, etwa hundert Pfund. Joh 19,40 Sie nahmen nun den Leib Jesu und wickelten ihn in leinene Tücher mit den wohlriechenden Ölen, wie die Juden zu begraben pflegen. Joh 19,41 Es war aber an dem Ort, wo er gekreuzigt wurde, ein Garten, und in dem Garten eine neue Gruft, in welche noch nie jemand gelegt worden war. Joh 19,42 Dorthin nun legten sie Jesus, wegen des Rüsttags der Juden, weil das Grab nahe war.

Joh 20,1 An dem ersten Wochentag aber kommt Maria Magdalena früh, als es noch finster war, zum Grab und sieht den Stein von der Gruft weggenommen. Joh 20,2 Da läuft sie und kommt zu Simon Petrus und zu dem anderen Jünger, den Jesus lieb hatte, und spricht zu ihnen: Sie haben den Herrn aus dem Grab weggenommen, und wir wissen nicht, wo sie ihn hingelegt haben. Joh 20,3 Da gingen Petrus und der andere Jünger hinaus, und sie gingen zu der Gruft. Joh 20,4 Die beiden aber liefen miteinander, und der andere Jünger lief voraus, schneller als Petrus, und kam zuerst zum Grab, Joh 20,5 und er beugte sich hinein und sah die leinenen Tücher liegen; er ging aber nicht hinein. Joh 20,6 Da kommt Simon Petrus ihm nach und ging hinein in die Gruft und sieht die leinenen Tücher liegen, Joh 20,7 und das Schweißtuch, welches auf seinem Haupt war, nicht bei den leinenen Tüchern liegen, sondern für sich zusammengewickelt an einem besonderen Ort. Joh 20,8 Da ging nun auch der andere Jünger hinein, der zuerst zu dem Grab kam, und er sah und glaubte. Joh 20,9 Denn sie verstanden die Schrift noch nicht, daß er aus den Toten auferstehen mußte. Joh 20,10 Es gingen nun die Jünger wieder heim. Joh 20,11 Maria aber stand draußen bei der Gruft und weinte. Als sie nun weinte, bückte sie sich vornüber in die Gruft Joh 20,12 und sieht zwei Engel in weißen Kleidern sitzen, einen bei dem Haupt und einen bei den Füßen, wo der Leib Jesu gelegen hatte. Joh 20,13 Und jene sagen zu ihr: Frau, was weinst du? Sie spricht zu ihnen: Weil sie meinen Herrn weggenommen haben, und ich nicht weiß, wo sie ihn hingelegt haben. Joh 20,14 Als sie dies gesagt hatte, wandte sie sich zurück und sieht Jesus dastehen; und sie wußte nicht, daß es Jesus war. Joh 20,15 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Frau, was weinst du? Wen suchst du? Sie, in der Meinung, es sei der Gärtner, spricht zu ihm: Herr, wenn du ihn weggetragen hast, so sage mir, wo du ihn hingelegt hast, und ich will ihn holen. Joh 20,16 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Maria! Sie wendet sich um und spricht zu ihm auf Hebräisch: Rabbuni! Das heißt Lehrer. Joh 20,17 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Rühre mich nicht an, denn ich bin noch nicht aufgefahren zum Vater. Geh aber hin zu meinen Brüdern und sprich zu ihnen: Ich fahre auf zu meinem Vater und eurem Vater, und zu meinem Gott und eurem Gott. Joh 20,18 Maria Magdalena kommt und verkündet den Jüngern, daß sie den Herrn gesehen, und daß er dies zu ihr gesagt habe. Joh 20,19 Als es nun Abend war an jenem Tag, dem ersten der Woche, und die Türen, wo die Jünger waren, aus Furcht vor den Juden verschlossen waren, kam Jesus und stand in der Mitte und spricht zu ihnen: Friede euch! Joh 20,20 Und als er dies gesagt hatte, zeigte er ihnen seine Hände und seine Seite. Da freuten sich die Jünger, als sie den Herrn sahen. Joh 20,21 Jesus sprach nun wiederum zu ihnen: Friede euch! Wie mich der Vater mich ausgesandt hat, so sende ich euch. Joh 20,22 Und als er dies gesagt hatte, hauchte er sie an und spricht zu ihnen: Empfangt den Heiligen Geist! Joh 20,23 Welchen ihr die Sünden vergebt, denen sind sie vergeben, welchen ihr sie behaltet, denen sind sie behalten. Joh 20,24 Thomas aber, einer von den Zwölfen, genannt Zwilling, war nicht bei ihnen, als Jesus kam. Joh 20,25 Da sagten die anderen Jünger zu ihm: Wir haben den Herrn gesehen. Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Es sei denn, daß ich in seinen Händen das Mal der Nägel sehe und meine Finger in das Mal der Nägel lege, und lege meine Hand in seine Seite, so werde ich nicht glauben. Joh 20,26 Und nach acht Tagen waren seine Jünger wiederum drinnen und Thomas bei ihnen. Da kommt Jesus, als die Türen verschlossen waren, und tritt in die Mitte und spricht: Friede euch! Joh 20,27 Dann spricht er zu Thomas: Reiche deinen Finger her und sieh meine Hände, und reiche deine Hand her und lege sie in meine Seite, und sei nicht ungläubig, sondern gläubig. Joh 20,28 Thomas antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Mein Herr und mein Gott! Joh 20,29 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Weil du mich gesehen hast, hast du geglaubt. Glückselig sind, die nicht sehen und doch glauben! Joh 20,30 Noch viele andere Zeichen tat nun Jesus vor seinen Jüngern, die nicht in diesem Buch geschrieben sind. Joh 20,31 Diese aber sind geschrieben, damit ihr glaubt, daß Jesus der Christus ist, der Sohn Gottes, und damit ihr glaubend Leben habt in seinem Namen.

Joh 21,1 Nach diesem offenbarte Jesus sich wiederum den Jüngern am See von Tiberias. Er offenbarte sich aber also: Joh 21,2 Simon Petrus und Thomas, genannt Zwilling, und Nathanael, der von Kana in Galiläa war, und die Söhne des Zebedäus und zwei andere von seinen Jüngern waren zusammen. Simon Petrus spricht zu ihnen: Joh 21,3 Ich gehe hin fischen. Sie sprechen zu ihm: So kommen wir auch mit dir. Sie gingen hinaus und stiegen in das Boot, und in jener Nacht fingen sie nichts. Joh 21,4 Als aber schon der frühe Morgen anbrach, stand Jesus am Ufer, aber die Jünger wußten nicht, daß es Jesus war. Joh 21,5 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Kinder, habt ihr wohl etwas zu essen? Sie antworteten ihm: Nein. Joh 21,6 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Werft das Netz auf der rechten Seite des Bootes aus, so werdet ihr finden. Da warfen sie es aus und vermochten es vor der Menge der Fische nicht mehr einzuziehen. Joh 21,7 Da sagt jener Jünger, den Jesus liebte, zu Petrus: Es ist der Herr! Simon Petrus nun, als er hörte, daß es der Herr sei, gürtete das Oberkleid um – denn er war entblößt – und warf sich in den See. Joh 21,8 Die anderen Jünger aber kamen in dem Boot, denn sie waren nicht weit vom Land, sondern bei zweihundert Ellen, und zogen das Netz mit den Fischen nach. Joh 21,9 Als sie nun ans Land ausstiegen, sehen sie ein Kohlenfeuer am Boden und Fisch darauf liegen und Brot. Joh 21,10 Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Bringt her von den Fischen, die ihr jetzt gefangen habt. Joh 21,11 Da ging Simon Petrus hinauf und zog das Netz voll großer Fische, hundertdreiundfünfzig, auf das Land. Und obwohl es so viele waren, zerriß das Netz nicht. Joh 21,12 Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Kommt und haltet das Mahl! Keiner aber von den Jüngern wagte ihn zu fragen: Wer bist du? Denn sie wußten, daß es der Herr war. Joh 21,13 Jesus kommt und nimmt das Brot und gibt es ihnen und ebenso den Fisch. Joh 21,14 Dies ist schon das dritte Mal, daß Jesus sich den Jüngern offenbarte, nachdem er aus den Toten auferweckt war. Joh 21,15 Als sie nun gefrühstückt hatten, spricht Jesus zu Simon Petrus: Simon, Sohn Jonas‘, liebst du mich mehr als diese? Er spricht zu ihm: Ja, Herr, du weißt, daß ich dich lieb habe. Spricht er zu ihm: Weide meine Lämmer. Joh 21,16 Wiederum spricht er zum zweiten Male zu ihm: Simon, Sohn Jonas‘, liebst du mich? Er spricht zu ihm: Ja, Herr, du weißt, daß ich dich lieb habe. Spricht er zu ihm: Hüte meine Schafe. Joh 21,17 Er spricht zum dritten Male zu ihm: Simon, Sohn Jonas‘, hast du mich lieb? Petrus wurde traurig, daß er zum dritten Male zu ihm sagte: Hast du mich lieb?, und sprach zu ihm: Herr, du weißt alles, du weißt, daß ich dich lieb habe. Jesus spricht zu ihm: Weide meine Schafe. Joh 21,18 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Als du jünger warst, gürtetest du dich selbst und gingst, wohin du wolltest; wenn du aber alt geworden bist, wirst du deine Hände ausstrecken, und ein anderer wird dich gürten und hinbringen, wohin du nicht willst. Joh 21,19 Dies aber sagte er, um anzudeuten, mit welchem Tod er Gott verherrlichen sollte. Und als er dies gesagt hatte, spricht er zu ihm: Folge mir nach. Joh 21,20 Petrus aber wandte sich um und sieht den Jünger nachfolgen, den Jesus liebte, der sich auch bei dem Abendmahl an seine Brust gelehnt und gefragt hatte: Herr, wer ist es, der dich verrät? Joh 21,21 Als nun Petrus diesen sah, spricht er zu Jesus: Herr, was soll aber dieser? Joh 21,22 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Wenn ich will, daß er bleibt, bis ich komme, was geht es dich an? Folge du mir nach. Joh 21,23 Daher ging das Wort hinaus unter die Brüder: Jener Jünger stirbt nicht. Aber Jesus sprach nicht zu ihm, daß er nicht sterbe, sondern: Wenn ich will, daß er bleibt, bis ich komme, was geht es dich an? Joh 21,24 Das ist der Jünger, der von diesen Dingen zeugt und der dies geschrieben hat, und wir wissen, daß sein Zeugnis wahr ist. Joh 21,25 Es sind aber noch viele andere Dinge, die Jesus getan hat. Wenn diese alle einzeln niedergeschrieben würden, so würde, meine ich, selbst die Welt die geschriebenen Bücher nicht fassen.

{3:1} There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: {3:2} The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. {3:3} Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. {3:4} Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? {3:5} Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. {3:6} That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. {3:7} Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. {3:8} The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. {3:9} Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? {3:10} Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? {3:11} Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. {3:12} If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? {3:13} And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven. {3:14} And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: {3:15} That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. {3:16} For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. {3:17} For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. {3:18} He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. {3:19} And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. {3:20} For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. {3:21} But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. {3:22} After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. {3:23} And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. {3:24} For John was not yet cast into prison. {3:25} Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying. {3:26} And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. {3:27} John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. {3:28} Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. {3:29} He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. {3:30} He must increase, but I must decrease. {3:31} He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. {3:32} And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. {3:33} He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. {3:34} For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. {3:35} The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. {3:36} He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

{4:1} When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, {4:2} Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples, {4:3} He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. {4:4} And he must needs go through Samaria. {4:5} Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. {4:6} Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. {4:7} There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. {4:8} For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat. {4:9} Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. {4:10} Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. {4:11} The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? {4:12} Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? {4:13} Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: {4:14} But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. {4:15} The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. {4:16} Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. {4:17} The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: {4:18} For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. {4:19} The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. {4:20} Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. {4:21} Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. {4:22} Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. {4:23} But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. {4:24} God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. {4:25} The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. {4:26} Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. {4:27} And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? {4:28} The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, {4:29} Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? {4:30} Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. {4:31} In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. {4:32} But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. {4:33} Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? {4:34} Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. {4:35} Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. {4:36} And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. {4:37} And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. {4:38} I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. {4:39} And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. {4:40} So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. {4:41} And many more believed because of his own word; {4:42} And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. {4:43} Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee. {4:44} For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. {4:45} Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. {4:46} So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. {4:47} When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. {4:48} Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. {4:49} The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. {4:50} Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. {4:51} And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. {4:52} Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. {4:53} So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. {4:54} This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

{5:1} After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. {5:2} Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. {5:3} In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. {5:4} For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. {5:5} And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. {5:6} When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? {5:7} The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. {5:8} Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. {5:9} And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. {5:10} The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. {5:11} He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. {5:12} Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? {5:13} And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. {5:14} Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. {5:15} The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole. {5:16} And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. {5:17} But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. {5:18} Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. {5:19} Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. {5:20} For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. {5:21} For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. {5:22} For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: {5:23} That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. {5:24} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. {5:25} Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. {5:26} For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; {5:27} And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. {5:28} Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, {5:29} And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. {5:30} I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. {5:31} If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. {5:32} There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. {5:33} Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. {5:34} But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. {5:35} He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. {5:36} But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. {5:37} And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. {5:38} And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. {5:39} Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. {5:40} And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. {5:41} I receive not honour from men. {5:42} But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. {5:43} I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. {5:44} How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? {5:45} Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. {5:46} For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. {5:47} But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

{6:1} After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. {6:2} And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. {6:3} And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. {6:4} And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. {6:5} When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? {6:6} And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. {6:7} Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. {6:8} One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, {6:9} There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? {6:10} And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. {6:11} And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. {6:12} When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. {6:13} Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. {6:14} Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. {6:15} When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. {6:16} And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, {6:17} And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. {6:18} And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. {6:19} So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. {6:20} But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. {6:21} Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went. {6:22} The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but [that] his disciples were gone away alone; {6:23} Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks: {6:24} When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. {6:25} And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? {6:26} Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. {6:27} Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. {6:28} Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? {6:29} Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. {6:30} They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? {6:31} Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. {6:32} Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. {6:33} For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. {6:34} Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. {6:35} And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. {6:36} But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. {6:37} All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. {6:38} For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. {6:39} And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. {6:40} And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. {6:41} The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. {6:42} And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? {6:43} Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. {6:44} No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. {6:45} It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. {6:46} Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. {6:47} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. {6:48} I am that bread of life. {6:49} Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. {6:50} This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. {6:51} I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. {6:52} The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? {6:53} Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. {6:54} Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. {6:55} For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. {6:56} He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. {6:57} As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. {6:58} This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. {6:59} These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. {6:60} Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? {6:61} When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? {6:62} What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? {6:63} It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. {6:64} But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. {6:65} And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. {6:66} From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. {6:67} Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? {6:68} Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. {6:69} And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. {6:70} Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? {6:71} He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

{7:1} After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. {7:2} Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand. {7:3} His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. {7:4} For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. {7:5} For neither did his brethren believe in him. {7:6} Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. {7:7} The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. {7:8} Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. {7:9} When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. {7:10} But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. {7:11} Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? {7:12} And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. {7:13} Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. {7:14} Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. {7:15} And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? {7:16} Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. {7:17} If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself. {7:18} He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. {7:19} Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? {7:20} The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee? {7:21} Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. {7:22} Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers; and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. {7:23} If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? {7:24} Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. {7:25} Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? {7:26} But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? {7:27} Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. {7:28} Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. {7:29} But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. {7:30} Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. {7:31} And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this [man] hath done? {7:32} The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. {7:33} Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. {7:34} Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come. {7:35} Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? {7:36} What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come? {7:37} In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. {7:38} He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. {7:39} But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified. {7:40} Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. {7:41} Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? {7:42} Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? {7:43} So there was a division among the people because of him. {7:44} And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. {7:45} Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? {7:46} The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. {7:47} Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? {7:48} Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? {7:49} But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed. {7:50} Nicodemus saith unto them, he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them, {7:51} Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? {7:52} They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. {7:53} And every man went unto his own house.

{8:1} Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. {8:2} And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. {8:3} And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, {8:4} They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. {8:5} Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? {8:6} This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. {8:7} So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. {8:8} And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. {8:9} And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. {8:10} When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? {8:11} She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. {8:12} Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. {8:13} The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. {8:14} Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, [yet] my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. {8:15} Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. {8:16} And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. {8:17} It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. {8:18} I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. {8:19} Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. {8:20} These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. {8:21} Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. {8:22} Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. {8:23} And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. {8:24} I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. {8:25} Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. {8:26} I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. {8:27} They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. {8:28} Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. {8:29} And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. {8:30} As he spake these words, many believed on him. {8:31} Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; {8:32} And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. {8:33} They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? {8:34} Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. {8:35} And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. {8:36} If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. {8:37} I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. {8:38} I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. {8:39} They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. {8:40} But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. {8:41} Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. {8:42} Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. {8:43} Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. {8:44} Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. {8:45} And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. {8:46} Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? {8:47} He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. {8:48} Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? {8:49} Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. {8:50} And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. {8:51} Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. {8:52} Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. {8:53} Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? {8:54} Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: {8:55} Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. {8:56} Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. {8:57} Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? {8:58} Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. {8:59} Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

{9:1} And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. {9:2} And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? {9:3} Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. {9:4} I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. {9:5} As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. {9:6} When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, {9:7} And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, which is by interpretation, Sent. He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. {9:8} The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? {9:9} Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he. {9:10} Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened? {9:11} He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. {9:12} Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not. {9:13} They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. {9:14} And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. {9:15} Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. {9:16} Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. {9:17} They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. {9:18} But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. {9:19} And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? {9:20} His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: {9:21} But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself. {9:22} These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. {9:23} Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. {9:24} Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. {9:25} He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. {9:26} Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? {9:27} He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? {9:28} Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples. {9:29} We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. {9:30} The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. {9:31} Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. {9:32} Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. {9:33} If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. {9:34} They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. {9:35} Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? {9:36} He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? {9:37} And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. {9:38} And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. {9:39} And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. {9:40} And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also? {9:41} Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

{10:1} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. {10:2} But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. {10:3} To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. {10:4} And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. {10:5} And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. {10:6} This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. {10:7} Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. {10:8} All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. {10:9} I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. {10:10} The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. {10:11} I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. {10:12} But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. {10:13} The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. {10:14} I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. {10:15} As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. {10:16} And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. {10:17} Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. {10:18} No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. {10:19} There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. {10:20} And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? {10:21} Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind? {10:22} And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. {10:23} And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch. {10:24} Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. {10:25} Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. {10:26} But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. {10:27} My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: {10:28} And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. {10:29} My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. {10:30} I and my Father are one. {10:31} Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. {10:32} Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? {10:33} The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. {10:34} Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? {10:35} If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; {10:36} Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? {10:37} If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. {10:38} But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. {10:39} Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand, {10:40} And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. {10:41} And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. {10:42} And many believed on him there.

{11:1} Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. {11:2} It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. {11:3} Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. {11:4} When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. {11:5} Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. {11:6} When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. {11:7} Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. {11:8} His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again? {11:9} Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. {11:10} But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. {11:11} These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. {11:12} Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. {11:13} Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. {11:14} Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. {11:15} And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. {11:16} Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him. {11:17} Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. {11:18} Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off: {11:19} And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. {11:20} Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house. {11:21} Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. {11:22} But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. {11:23} Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. {11:24} Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. {11:25} Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: {11:26} And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? {11:27} She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. {11:28} And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee. {11:29} As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him. {11:30} Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him. {11:31} The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there. {11:32} Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. {11:33} When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, {11:34} And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. {11:35} Jesus wept. {11:36} Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! {11:37} And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? {11:38} Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. {11:39} Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. {11:40} Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? {11:41} Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. {11:42} And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. {11:43} And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. {11:44} And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. {11:45} Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. {11:46} But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. {11:47} Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. {11:48} If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. {11:49} And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, {11:50} Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. {11:51} And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; {11:52} And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. {11:53} Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death. {11:54} Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples. {11:55} And the Jews’ passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves. {11:56} Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast? {11:57} Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

{12:1} Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. {12:2} There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. {12:3} Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. {12:4} Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, {12:5} Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? {12:6} This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. {12:7} Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. {12:8} For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always. {12:9} Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. {12:10} But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; {12:11} Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. {12:12} On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, {12:13} Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed [is] the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. {12:14} And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, {12:15} Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. {12:16} These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. {12:17} The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. {12:18} For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. {12:19} The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him. {12:20} And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: {12:21} The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. {12:22} Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. {12:23} And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. {12:24} Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. {12:25} He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. {12:26} If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. {12:27} Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. {12:28} Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. {12:29} The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. {12:30} Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. {12:31} Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. {12:32} And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. {12:33} This he said, signifying what death he should die. {12:34} The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? {12:35} Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. {12:36} While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. {12:37} But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: {12:38} That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? {12:39} Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, {12:40} He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. {12:41} These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him. {12:42} Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: {12:43} For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. {12:44} Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. {12:45} And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. {12:46} I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. {12:47} And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. {12:48} He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. {12:49} For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. {12:50} And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

{13:1} Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. {13:2} And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him; {13:3} Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; {13:4} He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. {13:5} After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. {13:6} Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? {13:7} Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. {13:8} Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. {13:9} Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. {13:10} Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. {13:11} For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. {13:12} So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? {13:13} Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. {13:14} If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. {13:15} For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. {13:16} Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. {13:17} If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. {13:18} I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. {13:19} Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. {13:20} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. {13:21} When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. {13:22} Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. {13:23} Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. {13:24} Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. {13:25} He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? {13:26} Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. {13:27} And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. {13:28} Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. {13:29} For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. {13:30} He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night. {13:31} Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. {13:32} If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him. {13:33} Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. {13:34} A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. {13:35} By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. {13:36} Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. {13:37} Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. {13:38} Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

{14:1} Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. {14:2} In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. {14:3} And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. {14:4} And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. {14:5} Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? {14:6} Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. {14:7} If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. {14:8} Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. {14:9} Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? {14:10} Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. {14:11} Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. {14:12} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. {14:13} And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. {14:14} If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. {14:15} If ye love me, keep my commandments. {14:16} And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; {14:17} Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. {14:18} I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. {14:19} Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. {14:20} At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. {14:21} He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. {14:22} Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? {14:23} Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. {14:24} He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. {14:25} These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. {14:26} But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. {14:27} Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. {14:28} Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. {14:29} And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. {14:30} Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. {14:31} But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

{15:1} I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. {15:2} Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. {15:3} Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. {15:4} Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. {15:5} I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. {15:6} If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. {15:7} If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. {15:8} Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. {15:9} As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. {15:10} If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. {15:11} These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. {15:12} This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. {15:13} Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. {15:14} Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. {15:15} Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. {15:16} Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. {15:17} These things I command you, that ye love one another. {15:18} If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. {15:19} If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. {15:20} Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. {15:21} But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. {15:22} If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. {15:23} He that hateth me hateth my Father also. {15:24} If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. {15:25} But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. {15:26} But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: {15:27} And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

{16:1} These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. {16:2} They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. {16:3} And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. {16:4} But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. {16:5} But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? {16:6} But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. {16:7} Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. {16:8} And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: {16:9} Of sin, because they believe not on me; {16:10} Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; {16:11} Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. {16:12} I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. {16:13} Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. {16:14} He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. {16:15} All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. {16:16} A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. {16:17} Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? {16:18} They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. {16:19} Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? {16:20} Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. {16:21} A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. {16:22} And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. {16:23} And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. {16:24} Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. {16:25} These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. {16:26} At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: {16:27} For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. {16:28} I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. {16:29} His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. {16:30} Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. {16:31} Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? {16:32} Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. {16:33} These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

{17:1} These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: {17:2} As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. {17:3} And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. {17:4} I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. {17:5} And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. {17:6} I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. {17:7} Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. {17:8} For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. {17:9} I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. {17:10} And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. {17:11} And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. {17:12} While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. {17:13} And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. {17:14} I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. {17:15} I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. {17:16} They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. {17:17} Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. {17:18} As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. {17:19} And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. {17:20} Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; {17:21} That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. {17:22} And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: {17:23} I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. {17:24} Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. {17:25} O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. {17:26} And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

{18:1} When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. {18:2} And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. {18:3} Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. {18:4} Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? {18:5} They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. {18:6} As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. {18:7} Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. {18:8} Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: {18:9} That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none. {18:10} Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. {18:11} Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? {18:12} Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, {18:13} And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. {18:14} Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. {18:15} And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. {18:16} But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. {18:17} Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not. {18:18} And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself. {18:19} The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. {18:20} Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. {18:21} Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said. {18:22} And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? {18:23} Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? {18:24} Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. {18:25} And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. John {18:26} One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? {18:27} Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew. {18:28} Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. {18:29} Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? {18:30} They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. {18:31} Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: {18:32} That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. {18:33} Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? {18:34} Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? {18:35} Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? {18:36} Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. {18:37} Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. {18:38} Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. {18:39} But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? {18:40} Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

{19:1} Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. {19:2} And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, {19:3} And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands. {19:4} Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. {19:5} Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! {19:6} When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him. {19:7} The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. {19:8} When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid; {19:9} And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. {19:10} Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? {19:11} Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. {19:12} And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. {19:13} When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. {19:14} And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! {19:15} But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. {19:16} Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. {19:17} And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: {19:18} Where they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. {19:19} And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. {19:20} This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. {19:21} Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. {19:22} Pilate answered, What I have written I have written. {19:23} Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. {19:24} They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. {19:25} Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. {19:26} When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! {19:27} Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. {19:28} After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. {19:29} Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. {19:30} When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. {19:31} The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, for that sabbath day was an high day, besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and [that] they might be taken away. {19:32} Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. {19:33} But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: {19:34} But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. {19:35} And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. {19:36} For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. {19:37} And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced. {19:38} And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. {19:39} And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. {19:40} Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. {19:41} Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. {19:42} There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

{20:1} The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. {20:2} Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. {20:3} Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. {20:4} So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. {20:5} And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. {20:6} Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, {20:7} And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. {20:8} Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. {20:9} For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. {20:10} Then the disciples went away again unto their own home. {20:11} But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, {20:12} And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. {20:13} And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. {20:14} And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. {20:15} Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. {20:16} Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. {20:17} Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. {20:18} Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. {20:19} Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. {20:20} And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. {20:21} Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. {20:22} And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: {20:23} Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. {20:24} But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. {20:25} The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. {20:26} And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. {20:27} Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. {20:28} And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. {20:29} Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. {20:30} And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: {20:31} But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

{21:1} After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself. {21:2} There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. {21:3} Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. {21:4} But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. {21:5} Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. {21:6} And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. {21:7} Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, for he was naked, and did cast himself into the sea. {21:8} And the other disciples came in a little ship; for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits, dragging the net with fishes. {21:9} As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. {21:10} Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught. {21:11} Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, and hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. {21:12} Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. {21:13} Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. {21:14} This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. {21:15} So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. {21:16} He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. {21:17} He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. {21:18} Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. {21:19} This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. {21:20} Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? {21:21} Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? {21:22} Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. {21:23} Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? {21:24} This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. {21:25} And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.
